Hiragana - The first step to Japanese

*In charts below, some readings are incorrect, so look

at the readings that I typed out throughout the doc.
What is hiragana and why is it important?
Hiragana are Japanese syllables. It’s used in everyday
Japanese texts, documents, etc. You need to learn
hiragana first before you learn anything else.

Hiragana has many functions, such as indicating how a

kanji is pronounced, indicating particles, changing
verb tenses, and much more.

You might realize that some sounds are missing from

that chart, but that’s because there are things called
dakuten (looks like quotation marks in the top right
corner:
Ex. ぎ) and handakuten (looks like a circle Ex: ぱ).
You don’t have to worry about these for now. Just
focus on the 46 syllables used in modern Japanese.

Don’t be discouraged if you’re not learning as fast as

you thought you were going to. Just think of it like
learning another English alphabet. When we were kids,
we didn’t learn the alphabet immediately. It was a
gradual process and we were able to learn it because
we were patient and invested time into it. Trust me,
when you master hiragana, you’ll feel very
accomplished.

*Note — Don’t take breaks like the documents say. You

want to get hiragana done quickly.
