MEALS

Meal is defined as a dish or a set of Dishes had at a specified time of the day.
TYPES OF MEAL:
1) EMT (Early morning tea):- Usually only tea is served at around 6:00 am in the morning though this
time may very as
per guest needs, sometime biscuits might also be served.
2) BREAKFAST: - The first of meals of the day. Timing is generally from 7:00 am to 11:00am in the
morning.
Cafe’ simple/The’ simple: When tea/coffee is served without any thing.
Cafe’ complet / The’ complet: When tea/coffee is served with continental breakfast.
TYPES OF BREAKFAST ARE AS FOLLOW:-
1. CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST
2. AMERICAN BREAKFAST
3. ENGLISH BREAKFAST
4. INDIAN BREAKFAST
a) North Indian
b) South Indian
CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST
Fruit Juice (fresh/ canned)
Bread/ Toast (with preserves and butter)
Tea/ coffee
AMERICAN BREAKFAST
Fruit juices (fresh/ canned)
Cereals (cornflakes/porridge/oatmeal/wheat flakes)
Eggs to order (boiled/ omelette/poached/fried/scrambled)

ENGLISH BREAKFAST
Fruit juices (fresh/canned)
Stewed fruits
Cereals (cornflakes/porridge/oatmeal/wheat flakes)
Fish (fried/grilled)
Eggs too order (boiled/omelette/poached/fried/scrambled)
Meat (Fried/grilled/sausages)
Bread/toast (with preserves and butter)

INDIAN BREAKFAST: Indian breakfasts are mainly the

NORTH INDIAN like puri bhaji, aloo paratha with curd and chola bhatore.

SOUTH INDIAN breakfasts like vada, idli, dosa etc. are popular.
3) LUNCH: - Timing 12:00noon to 3:30pm. The first of the two major meals of the day.
4) AFTERNOON TEA: - Usually only tea or sometime with biscuits served between 3:00pm to
4:00pm.
5) HIGH TEA: - Between lunch and dinner i.e. 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Normally tea or coffee offered with
heavy snacks.

Sometimes certain light fish/meat item can also be served. Evening tea with certain snacks items
served between
4:00pm and 7:00pm.
6) DINNER: - Last of the major meals for the day served between 7:00pm to 11:30pm.
7) SUPPER: - A late night meal usually around 2:00am it generally consists of sandwiches and no
heavy dish is served.
8) BRUNCH: - A heavy meal is taken avoiding the breakfast and also to skip the lunch. Timing
11:00am to 1:00pm (most
popular in weekends).
9) ELEVENSES: - Any meal taken at the eleventh hour the day generally after skipping the breakfast.
The food items are
generally bite sized.
