What is meal???
• A MEAL IS AN EATING OCCASION THAT TAKES PLACE AT A
CERTAIN TIME AND INCLUDES PREPARED FOOD OR THE
FOOD EATEN ON THAT OCCASION.
• THE NAMES USED FOR SPECIFIC MEALS IN ENGLISH VARY
GREATLY, DEPENDING ON THE SPEAKER'S CULTURE, THE
TIME OF DAY, OR THE SIZE OF THE MEAL.
• MEALS OCCUR PRIMARILY AT HOMES, RESTAURANTS,
AND CAFETERIAS, BUT MAY OCCUR ANYWHERE.
• REGULAR MEALS OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS, TYPICALLY
SEVERAL TIMES A DAY

BREAKFAST
• Breakfast is one of the major meal of a day.
• It is the first meal of a day.
• Breakfast word refers to “breaking the fasting
period” of the prior night.
• Breakfast is an important meal for a human
body as to perform various tasks of a day.
• It gives energy to our body.

• AMERICAN BREAKFAST.
• ENGLISH BREAKFAST.
• INDIAN BREAKFAST.
• CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST.

BRUNCH

• Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch


eaten usually during late morning.
• Brunch originated in england in late 19th
century and became popular in US.
• It is generally served around 11AM- 1PM.
• Usually it is served on speacial days.

• IT IS EATEN IN THE MID OF THE DAY.

• HI-TEA IS A MEAL SERVED IN EVENING
AROUND 4PM-6PM.
• HI-TEA IS A BRITISH TRADITION OF DRINKING
TEA, WHILE SITTING IN HIGH BACKED CHAIRS
AT A TABLE FULL OF PLATED ITEMS.
• HI TEA INCLUDES DISHES LIKE BREAD
BUTTER, BAKED DISHES, APPETIZERS, TEA,
COFFEE ETC.
DINNER
• DINNER REFERS TO THE MOST SIGNIFICANT
MEAL OF THE DAY.
• IT IS TAKEN AS THE EVENING MEAL.
• IT IS GENERALLY SERVED AROUND 7PM-
11PM.
• THERE ARE MANY DISHES SERVED IN THE
DINNER.
SUPPER

• THE TERM IS DERIVED FROM THE


FRENCH SOUPER, WHICH HISTORICALLY WAS
USED FOR THIS MEAL IN THE FRENCH OF FRANCE
AND STILL IS USED IN CANADIAN, SWISS, AND
SOMETIMES BELGIAN FRENCH.
• IT IS RELATED TO SOUP.
• THE NOON MEAL AS WELL AS SPECIAL
MEALS, USUALLY SERVED IN THE LATE
AFTERNOON, WHILE "DINNER" IS SERVED
AROUND NOON

HISTORY-
• THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN DINNER AND
SUPPER WAS COMMON IN UNITED STATES
FARMING COMMUNITIES INTO THE TWENTIETH
CENTURY, ESPECIALLY IN THE MID-WEST AND
THE AMERICAN SOUTH, THOUGH TODAY, MOST
AMERICANS CONSIDER THE TWO SYNONYMS
AND STRONGLY PREFER THE TERM DINNER FOR
THE EVENING MEAL.
