DPP 8 POAC XI JEE BATCH

Principle of Atom Conservation (POAC) :

POAC is conservation of mass. Atoms are conserved, moles of atoms shall also be
conserved in a chemical reaction.

Q1. 27.6 g K2CO3 was treated by a series of reagents so as to convert all of its carbon to
K2Zn3[Fe(CN)6]2. Calculate the weight of the product.
[mol. wt. of K2CO3 = 138 and mol. wt. of K2Zn3[Fe(CN)6]2 = 698]

Q2. 25.4 g of iodine and 14.2 g of chlorine are made to react completely to yield a mixture
of ICl and ICI3. Calculate the number of moles of ICl and ICI3 formed.
(1) 0.1 mole, 0.1 mole
(2) 0.1 mole, 0.2 mole
(3) 0.5 mole, 0.5 mole
(4) 0.2 mole, 0.2 mole

Q3. 0.32 mole of LiAlH4, in ether solution was placed in a ask and 74 g (1 moles) of t-
butyl alcohol was added. The product is LiAlHC12H27O3. Find the weight of the product if
lithium atoms are conserved.
[Li = 7, Al = 27, H = 1, C = 12, 0 = 16]

Q4. In a gravimetric determination of P an aqueous solution of dihydrogen phosphate ion

H2PO4-. Is treated with a mixture of ammonium (NH4+ ) & magnesium (Mg2+) ions to
magnesium ammonium phosphate (MgNH4PO4.6H20) • This is heated and decomposed
to magnesium pyrophosphate (Mg2P2O7). A solution H2PO4- yield 2.22 gm of
Mg2P2O7 . What weight of NaH2PO4 was present originally.
