This 1988 BMW M3 shows just 8k miles and is "nished in Zinnoberrot over tan. The car is said
to have been sold new in California, and remained with the original owner until his passing in
the mid-1990s. It was then garaged and driven occasionally by the original owner’s family
before being acquired by the seller in 2010 and moved to Missouri. Power is from a 2.3-liter
DOHC inline-four paired with a "ve-speed manual gearbox, and equipment includes power
windows, cruise control, and air conditioning, plus a factory Sport Evolution rear spoiler, front
splitter, and tow-hook cover. The seller states that the car was serviced in April 2020 with #uid
changes and a valve adjustment, as well as installation of a new timing chain tensioner, clutch
slave cylinder, and accessory drive belts. This E30 M3 is now o!ered with service records,
owner’s manuals, the factory wheels and rear spoiler, a clean Carfax report, and a clean
Missouri title in the seller’s name.

The body is "nished in Zinnoberrot and features M3-speci"c side skirts, front and rear
bumpers, and fender #ares. Modi"cations include a BMW M3 Sport Evolution rear spoiler,
front splitter, and tow-hook cover, though the factory items will accompany the car. The seller
notes that the driver-side front fender has been re"nished, and that the passenger fender
shows a paint-depth reading slightly higher than the rest of the body.

Replacement BMW 15″ basketweave wheels wear BMW center caps and are wrapped in
Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires that were installed in April 2020. The factory wheels are included
in the sale and wear 205/55 Goodyear Eagle NCT tires stamped with “327” date codes. Braking
is provided by four-wheel ventilated discs, and the brake #uid and ABS speed sensors were
replaced in 2020. The seller notes that the factory spare remains in the trunk, and it is believed
that it has never been installed.

The interior is trimmed in Natural Tan leather with matching carpets and door panels, a black
dash and center console, and factory BMW-embossed #oor mats. Amenities include air
conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and an AM/FM cassette stereo.

A factory M-Tech 1 steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer,

and gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer
shows just over 8k miles, approximately 640 of which have been added by the seller since
February 2010.

The 2.3L S14B23 inline-four was factory rated at 192 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque.
Maintenance completed in February 2020 included a replacement shift shaft seal, a new fuel
"lter, and changes of the transmission #uid, coolant, and engine oil. An S52 timing chain
tensioner was also installed, along with a new oil "lter housing gasket, lower oil pan gasket,
alternator bushings, and reconditioned injectors.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Getrag G265 "ve-speed manual gearbox and a limited-
slip di!erential. Service completed in April 2020 included a new crankshaft seal, clutch fork,
and release bearing, as well as a di!erential #uid exchange and replacement exhaust hangers
and gaskets. A new front splash shield and new left and right front wheel well housing shields
were also installed.

The Carfax report shows registration history in California and Missouri since the "rst entry in
2005, and indicates no accidents or other damage. The seller has provided exterior and
interior overview videos below.

@Scott_K – haha! You never know what will pop up these days. We received a call
from the original owner of a 1988 Zinno/Black M3 with just 13K miles…they do pop
up every once in a while.

@EAGBMW Couldn’t agree with you more. We base our valuations on vintage M’s and
several other classic BMW examples based on two things… the friendship you’ve
extended to us along the way and the experience you have in dealing with only the
best of the best, not nationally but internationally. If we were to buy an example like
this EAG would be all over this transaction like Oprah on a baked ham prior to us
funding anything remotely close to these kinds of numbers. Period!

@Darren – This can’t be the "rst time you’ve heard that a friend of a friend said this
or that, right? ;-)

I think with an auction that received this much attention should bene"t from a more
direct/o%cial closure from the buyer and seller for all to witness. I only see how this
bene"ts both parties knowing the buyer will eventually sell and the seller has plenty
more E30 M3s sitting in the garage…

That said, we haven’t changed our pricing model or valuation of E30 M3s as a result
of this heavily tra%cked auction that now has 1,200 comments as of this one. While
this is a big data point for this single VIN, assuming this wasn’t the greatest marketing
e!ort ever for the E30, it doesn’t meteorically rise the value of all E30’s as a result.
The market didn’t change overnight when the last VIN built for NA sold back in 2016
for a staggering $200K back then, I expect the same slow and steady market the E30’s
have been over the past decade or so based on several hundred examples we’ve sold
in this time frame.

@harp7868 I’m with ya… I can’t even recall how many boxes of early 90’s airbag
steering wheels we have in storage… I think the only airbag steering wheel I like is o!
the E23 L7… that one "ts the sedan well… the E30 M3 is good to go bagless… makes
one a better driver too! ;)
