Summary Need Anallysis

NEED ANALLYSIS
A needs analysis is carried out to answer the accuracy and suitability of the program with
students, with the curriculum and situations in which English is (to be) used.

Hall and Crabbe (1994) state that some of the information revealed from this needs analysis such
as local conditions where this program will be implemented such as class layout, availability of hearing
aids such as cassettes, tapes, salons, mikes, and others, as well as class sizes for the program. the
readiness of the available officers, the timing of program implementation and the presence or absence of
an external assessment for the feasibility and running of the program.

NEED ANALLYSIS METHOD

Needs analysis can be carried out through questionnaires, interviews, observations, tests.
collection of authentic data, and case studies. You do this by carrying out this data collection to people
who have authority over students, and to the students themselves.

According to Hutchinson and Waters (1994) are descriptions of requests in accordance with
target situations where English will be used by learners. The result of this needs description is a
description of the linguistic features needed by the learner. In addition, needs also produce a description
of the proficiency or ability of the learner to use these features.

LEARNING ANALYSIS

The second analysis group is learning analysis. This analysis includes why students take ESP: is
it to fulfill course obligations, or other goals such as promotions, salaries, promotions, or others. In
addition, this analysis also looks for data on what facilities/resources are available, both for teachers,
finances, and teaching equipment.
