Mental Health

It is defined as the psychological well-being of an individual. It affects


a persons thought,feeling and actions

Factors that shape Personality

Heredity- or passing on traits from your parents. Your intelligence


and other personality such as talent,sense of humor, and interests
are part of your heredity or something learned from your parents.

Environment- or your surroundings. Includes where you grew up,


who your family and friends are, and all the experience you have had.

Behaviour- or the way you act in many different situations and event
in your life. Over which you have the most control

Characteristic of a Mentally Healthy Person

-Know to accept their limitations


-Are happy active most of the time and have a positive lookout on life
-Are aware of their thought and feelings
-Know how to accept criticism
-Not afraid to face problems
-Give their best to whatever they do

Stressor- it refers to the thing that makes a person stressed

What is Stress?
is defined as the physiological and emotions response to a significant
or unexpected change or disruption in ones life. It is also defined as
the response of the body and mind to unpleasant or challenging
events in life. It is when you feel tensed, uncomfortable or worried
about something.
Anxiety is your body natural response to stress. The word stress or
refers to the things that make a person stressed. It leads to the
body’s stress response.

Kinds of stress

Eustress- refers to the positive and healthy response of the body


from a stressor.
Distress- refers to negative stress. It implies an external and usually
temporary cause of great physical or mental strain and stress.

Cause of stress

School demands and frustrations


Negative thoughts about themselves
Changes in their bodies
Problems with friend or family problems
Moving or changing schools
Death of a loved one
Chronic illness
Separation or divorced of parents

Mental Disorder

Depression- is characterized by sadness, low self worth, loss of


interest or tiredness and poor concentration
Bipolar- it typically consist of both manic and depressive episodes
separated by periods of normal mood
Schizophrenia- distortions in thinking, perception =, emotions
language, sense of self and behaviour.
Dementia-a chronic or progressive nature in which there is
deterioration in cognitive function beyond what might be expected
from normal ageing.
Development disorder including autism- usually have a childhood
onset but tend to persist adulthood, causing impairment or delay in
functions related to the central nervous system maturation.
