The Little Prince

1) Explain the quotation "it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is
invisible to the eye"?

The quotation: "..it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is
invisible to the eye" means that a person can easily be fooled for they only use their eyes to look
at something, they never look with their heart to look INTO what they look at so they would
understand lot more further. We always look the outer cover of natural things that we forget to
think and look at a deeper perspective. It also pertains that people only uses their mind to think
that makes them make wrong or not worthy decisions. People tend to don't mind what they truly
want or need for they're always mesmerized to the things that is present in front of them, they
decide not to think and use their hearts to further look into different and more meaningful
perspective.

2) What is the meaning of the concept "it is not really about growing up that is the problem, but
it is about forgetting"?

When one forgets, just because they grew up that doesn’t mean they truly forget. There is
a saying that we cannot continue living with our past, because it’s already the past and we cannot
go back to it. Going back to the question, that growing up is not the problem but forgetting is. In
the movie, when the little prince grew up he works as a janitor for the businessman, but when
time came the little girl who met the aviator who introduced the little prince to her and that made
her curious, she continued the adventure that the aviator didn’t, to find the little prince, while the
aviator is lying on the hospital bed sick. That time when the the little girl tries to make the little
prince remember, the little prince was enlightened because he was once a kid loaded with great
memories and then he realized how happy he was. We can grow up but we must not forget.

Relating to this, we were once a kid dreaming big, not knowing how the world works, not
knowing the reality or what hardships to experience before reaching that certain dream.
Nonetheless, our minds speaks so much of how positive, how colorful and how good the world is
when we were young. As we became older, we think the opposite way or the reality in short.
There’s nothing wrong with reality, it’s just that life in reality is kind of heartbreaking sometimes
but it’s part of life and we cannot do anything about it but live and learn with/from it.

3) What do you think are the differences and similarities between the book and the film?

There were more differences between the movie and the book than there were
similarities. With this being said, let’s start with the differences.

The most obvious thing the movie changed was the main plot of the story. In the movie, the story
is about a little girl pressured by her mom to grow up. The book however, is about a little boy
who meets a pilot in the desert. The story of the book became kind of a subplot in the movie
when the little girl’s neighbor introduced it to her. Since the storyline itself is changed in the
movie, the setting also changed. Most of the film was set in a neighborhood whereas the book
mostly took place in the desert. There were also additional characters in the film that were not in
the book, like the little girl and the mother. Nonetheless, most of the characters from the book
still made an appearance in the film except for the Trippler, the old geographer, the lamplighter,
and the merchant.

Though there were a lot of differences between the book and the movie, it still shared similar
underlying theme about the ignorance and lack of imagination of adults, and how we shouldn’t
rush being a grown up.

4) What are your main realizations from the film and also from the book "The Little Prince"?

(No research from the internet please)

Main realizations in film:

- is that sometimes we are too engrossed in planning out our life that we end up just existing
rather than living life to the fullest and living our dreams.

- being different is a good thing. The old man was isolated for being different from others and I
think it's no different in the real world.

Main realizations in book

- As we get older we probably become cynic, dull and forget to let our imaginatiions run wild
and free. We become molded by the world instead of expressing ourselves freely.
- the people and creatures the little prince met and the questions he asked is something that we
can ask ourselves and see how ridiculous we are. For example the tippler, he is drinking because
he is ashamed that he drinks too much. It might seem ridiculous but truth be told there are some
adults who are just like that and they don't even see that they are like that. Same goes with the
king, the conceited man, the businessman, the “lamp-lighter” and the old gentleman.
