The VA Dental Service Design Guide was developed as a design tool to assist the medical center staff, VACO
Planners, and the project team in better understanding the choices that designers ask them to make, and to help
designers understand the functional requirements necessary for proper operation of this procedure suite. This
document is intended to be used as a guide and is supplementary to current technical manuals, building codes
and other VA criteria in planning healthcare facilities. This Design Guide is not intended to be project-specific. It
addresses the general functional and technical requirements for typical VA Healthcare Facilities
