The Raja Ampat Islands are located in the westernmost part of Papua and span an area of

approximately 4.6 million hectares. Raja Ampat Regency consists of 4 large islands namely

Waigeo Island, Batanta, Salawati and Misool, and 1,847 other small islands. Well, the name Raja

Ampat itself is believed to come from a local legend who believes that a long time ago there was

a woman who found seven eggs, the four eggs became kings who ruled on the four main islands.

There are three others, one becomes a stone, one becomes a woman, and one becomes a

supernatural being or ghost. Regardless of the legend that is believed by the local community,

the beauty that is presented by Raja Ampat is a fact that cannot be contested.

For those of you who like diving and snorkeling, the waters of Raja Ampat are one of the best

diving destinations in the world. According to a report by an international environmental social

organization, The Nature Conservancy and Conservation International, about 75% of the world's

coral species live in the Raja Ampat islands. This destination has a high species richness and

uniqueness with the discovery of 1,318 species of fish, 699 species of molluscs (soft animals),

and 537 species of coral reefs. Feel for yourself the sensation of diving and meet various types of

unique marine life, such as pygmy seahorse, bat fish, and dugong you can find in the waters of

Raja Ampat.

Some of the best and most famous dive spots in Raja Ampat include Kabui Passage, around

Arborek Island Pier, Sauwandarek, Yenbuba, Friwen Wall, and many more! No wonder, if a lot

of foreign tourists who are willing to come all the way to Indonesia to enjoy the charming

underwater charm.

Not only the underwater beauty is extraordinary, the scenery above the surface is no less

charming. The panorama of the row of stone islands in the middle of the blue water gradation

looks so heavenly when viewed from the top of the hill. Prepare to be physically strong and do

Raja Ampat or The Four Kings is a famous island located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head
Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia's West Papua Province. It is well known as a
diving heaven for people around the world.
Raja Ampat covers 9.8 million acres of land and sea, home to 540 types of corals, 1,000 types of
coral fish and 700 types of mollusks. It makes Raja Ampat as the most diverse living library for
world’s coral reef and underwater biota. Beside that, Raja Ampat has a beautiful scenery, especially
from its underwater corals and its beach.
Under the water of Raja Ampat Island, we can see many natural coral’s reef that never touched
by human. We can also see many fishes that have many colors and types. They usually hide between
the coral reefs to take a rest or brood their eggs. Not only that, we can see many war planes and
ships that sunken in World War II.
Because of its beautiful underwater scenery, many tourists come to Raja Ampat island. They
come from Indonesia or from the other country. They come to Raja Ampat by plane or by ship, but
most tourists go to Raja Ampat by plane to shorten their trip time.
There are many things that you can see also beside the underwater scenery. You can meet many
fishermen around the beach, some of them become the tourist guide for the foreign tourists. The
fishermen are very friendly and they will offer you “Pinang” (betel nuts) or some sweet candies.
