CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

INTRODUCTION

“Technology will never replace great Teachers, but in the hands of great teachers, it’s

transformational” mentioned by George Couros, the author of “The Innovator’s mindset”.

Technology as used in education and teaching is not a replacement for teachers, but rather

an additional method of instruction. By utilizing a technology, it will encourage teachers to be

innovative educators and this will make education and learning a flexible and interactive process.

For instance, it is crucial to highlight that there are numerous instructional technologies, such as

laptops, cellphones, projectors, desktop computers, and Microsoft office that are supporting the

education sector of schools and universities. Utilizing these instructional technologies, instead of

replacing any teachers, create a platform that allows for the creation of interactive classrooms

and improved teaching methods.

Although technology used in teaching could not completely replace traditional teaching, it

could achieve the best teaching effect and have learners be glad to learn by reinforcing

traditional teaching with technology and comprehensively practicing both methods in teaching

activity. It also helps to develop innovative methods. Technology may be useful in any situation,

but it is especially helpful in education and learning because it has a significant positive impact

on both.

Teachers really play an important role in the delivery of lessons. Hence, the use of

instructional technology has a big part to make the classroom conducive for learning. The
question is, does the utilization of technology vary among the age of teachers? So, this study will

investigate how the age of teachers impact the use of instructional technology.

Statement of Problem:

The study aims to analyze the utilization of instructional technology of teaching personnel in all

public high schools in Siruma, Camarines Sur. Specifically, the study sought to answer the

following questions:

1. What are the effects of using technology-based instruction in teaching?

2. How does the age of teaching personnel affect the utilization of technology in teaching?

3. What is the common issue that teachers experience that make it challenging to execute

the lesson using instructional technology?

Scope and Delimitation:

The study aims to analyze the utilization of instructional technology of teaching

personnel in all public high schools in Siruma, Camarines Sur. School year 2022-2023.

The purpose of this study is to learn more about the utilization of instructional technology

of teaching personnel. The study also examines the importance of technology-based instruction

in the classroom, of how the teaching personnel’s age affects the utilization of technology in

teaching, and the difficulties encountered by teaching personnel when using instructional

technology to carry out a lesson.

This study focuses only on teaching personnel of public high schools in Siruma,

Camarines Sur specifically in Tandoc National High School, Vito National High School, Siruma

National High School, and Fundado National High School. A researcher-modified

questionnaires will be administered to the respondents. This study will also focus in four

generations- Baby boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. It is limited to the

objective of the study since the researchers only wanted to analyze the utilization of instructional

technology used by teaching personnel. The attainment of this study is dependent to the answers

of the respondents. The study will be conducted in this school year 2022 to 2023. The framework

of the study doesn't covered any changes or progress in details and updated information beyond

the said point.

Significance of the Study:

This study will help the researchers to analyze the utilization of instructional technology

of public high school teaching personnel. It is hoped that the findings of this research would be

important to the following:

Students- This may serve as a guide and reference for the students undertaking similar study.

Teaching Personnel- It will encourage them to make improvements to their teaching

methodology or style.

School- This study might encourage them to redirect their attention in looking for opportunities

to get technology as instructional tools.

Parents - This study will give them information about instructional technology and its effects.

They could also help and guide their children in using technology for academic or school

purposes.

Community- The study's findings will inform the public about technology-based instruction.

Other Researchers- This study will add to the body of knowledge that other researchers can use

as a reference material to determine if there are gap in the literature and for future studies on

relevant topics.
