SUCCESS STORY OF A FARMER

Name: Natabar Mohanta

Shri Natabar Mohanta is a 50 year old man of Budhamara village, Sukruli Block
Mayurbhanj District. He lives with his wife and his son. Shri Natabar and his
wife are uneducated but they managed successfully to make their son a
graduate. Shri Natabar started doing agriculture since 1999 in his 2 acre of land.
In his land he used to grow crops like tomatoes, beans, peas, ridge gourd, broad
beans, cabbages, cauliflowers, brinjals and cucumbers.

He also tried with country chicken (desi murgi) inside his house. Later, during
2012, due to low demand of cabbage in the market and his inability to store his
product, he faced a loss up to 2-3 quintals, which is a huge loss for him. In spite
of all the difficulties, he steered through all his misfortunes. He seriously
thought over taking to some extra sources of income. Thus, fishery and dairy
farming came to his mind and he started them on a small scale.

He approached various organisations to finance his schemes. In course of time,


his patience, labour and due care bore fruit and his fishery and Vegetable farm
prospered within a few years, so much so that ultimately he could get an
annual profit of ₹2 lakhs. Now he has become a known and popular farmer in
his area. Others farmer also try to follow his footsteps and he had come to the
notice of the administration. Because of his sincere achievement he was finally
awarded with the ‘Babulal Agarwala Memorial’s 20th Farmer Award-2019’.
