Good afternoon, everyone.

Today, I am going to talk about the novel "Wuthering Heights". This is a classic of English
literature, written by Emily Bronte, which tells the story of the passionate and destructive love
between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff.

The main action happens between the end of the 18 th century and the beginning of the 19 th
century, mainly in two places, in the North of England: Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross
Grange. The story told by this novel is essentially about the Earnshaw family and their adopted
child, Heathcliff, who becomes the novel’s central figure.

One day, Mr. Earnshaw, the old owner of Wuthering Heights, brought a young orphan boy
home to live with his family. His name was Heathcliff. Not everyone liked the arrival of this
young boy, one of those people was Hindley, Mr. Earnshaw’s son, because Heathcliff did not
come from the same social class as him. However, Heathcliff and Earnshaw’s daughter,
Catherine, developed a good relationship, which became even more passionate as they were
growing up.

A few years later, Mr. Earnshaw's died, and Hindley became the owner of Wuthering Heights.
Since he hated Heathcliff and the relationship Heathcliff had with his sister, Hindley began to
mistreat him by making him work endless hours, becoming a servant in the house. Hindley also
forbade him to see and speak with Catherine, making both unhappy.

After they've been apart for so long, Catherine met and fell in love with Edgar Linton, a
neighbor, and decided to marry him. This devastated Heathcliff and, because of that, he
decided to leave Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff returned years later, now stronger, smarter, and determined to take revenge from
Hindley and the Linton family. Catherine was the only one who was happy with the return of
Heathcliff because she still had some feelings for him. The arrival of Heathcliff brought a lot of
arguments and problems to the house which made Catherine get sick.

Catherine ended up dying giving birth to her daughter, Cathy. After Catherine's death,
Heathcliff became more consumed by revenge, marrying the sister of Edgar Linton, Isabella not
because of love, but because of revenge. They ended up having a son. Because he looked a lot
like Edgar Linton, Heathcliff started to mistreat his own son. His wife after seeing the truth
about Heathcliff ended up abandoning him.

Hindley died years later when Heathcliff took control of Wuthering Heights and used his power
to torment and manipulate those around him. Placing Hindley's son as a servant, as Hindley
had placed him as a child.

After some time, Heathcliff made a new plan forcing Cathy, the daughter of Catherine, and his
son to marry, passing all the Linton family fortune to him.

Despite his obsession with revenge, Heathcliff is ultimately unable to find peace or happiness.
His cruelty led to the destruction of everyone around him, including himself. Heathcliff became
increasingly ill and delirious. In his final moments, he sees a vision of Catherine and begs for
her forgiveness before dying. His death marks the end of the cycle of revenge and cruelty, and
the beginning of a new chapter for the next generation.
To conclude, I advise everyone to read this book, however, the vocabulary and the poetic
writing style are very complex, but it’s a magnific story, that talks about the destructive power
of obsession and the consequences of revenge.
