Philosophical Essay

According to the test, my philosophy is progressivism. This means that I believe

education should be student centered which I think is accurate. I feel that you should

always teach to the needs of the student rather than teach at the student. I feel that

teaching should be done with the student’s needs in mind rather than with the goal of

trying to get through a particular unit. The reason I feel this way is because our job as

teachers is to educate our students, and if we’re not making sure that the student is

understanding what is being taught, than there really isn’t any learning happening. I feel

that this is a major contributor to why so many students tend to fall behind is because

the teachers aren’t making sure that what their teaching is actually being understood by

those who are being taught. While I feel that lesson plans are a very important part of

being an educator, I also feel that they take a back seat to what the student needs from

the teacher. I feel like teachers need to always remember that not every student learns

in the same way or at the same pace and that teachers need to be prepared for the

students that maybe don’t understand or that might be falling a little behind. I feel that

teachers need to not only be prepared for this but more importantly they also need to be

prepared to adjust the way they teach to ensure that all of their students are presented

with the same opportunity to learn. I feel that even though every teacher might have

their own method or style of teaching, they should always be willing to adjust or adapt

the way that they teach in order to ensure the success of all of their students. I feel like

even though some teachers might find it annoying to have to change the way they
teach, it’s worth it to see all of your students reach their fullest potential and be able to

progress in their educational journey.
