My Teaching Philosophy as a Beginning Teacher

Teaching is like a turtle’s traits. You need to be wise as you teach students slowly but surely that
students will learn from you. You need to be humble and be patient as you teach them as your children. You
have to look the best techniques and strategies that will cater all your students and how you will reach your
goal. That goal is to teach students to learn, giving them the courage to work hard and improve their lives as
an individual and be successful in their own way.
Time flies so fast, way back then being a student, listening to our teachers discussing the lessons,
doing all school works, sharing and gaining knowledge from other people and making memories and
experiences with my classmates and friends. As the pandemic occurs, we just have blended way of learning
and we are waiting when is day where we have to experience being in the field, teaching students learning.
For how many months of waiting, the time came that we would experience what our previous teachers are
experiencing in the field of being a student teacher/s. With this, I was assigned at Alangalang National High
School as I am taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education where ANHS is my beloved and my Alma Mater.
First day being at ANHS as a teaching intern, I’m excited as well as nervous. Excited as I will teaching my
students for them to learn and nervous as I’m thinking that I will not be good teacher to my students. Despite
having those feelings, I tried my best to calm down, to think that I can do it, that I can teach my students
well. I am very proud and honor that God allowed me to reach this far despite of the experiences that I’ m
going through for that past years.
Having a very accommodating cooperating teacher, Mrs. Petrocyl C. Ortega, a Master teacher I and
head of grade 7 department which also handled four (4) sections in grade 7 namely; Adelfa, Dahlia,
Everlasting and Calachuchi where I am very lucky to have her. She helped me everything, through out the
process, guiding me and giving me the opportunity to explore what strategies that I’m going to use that suit
to all student’s capability. At first, I feel nervous facing my students but as the time passes I know how to
deal with and the way I interact them.
In the principles and methods of teaching, it was stated that the emphasis in all teaching should be the
learning process, not only in the subject matter. While I’m teaching my grade 7 students, there was a time
that students can’t easily learn the lesson but as their student teacher, I need to consider this instance that
even though you mastered the lesson, if the students can’t easily learn, it is useless. Upon observing students’
performance, I can tell that not all students can learn even if the lesson is easy because students have different
way and pace of learning. I also experienced tired in making lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, but I
need to look forward, I ask my co-student teacher about the topic and make it easy to integrate to my students.
With that, the experiences I have at ANHS is worth keeping for, best experiences I will cherish in my
entire life. This student teaching experiences opened my heart and mind to pursue this career in the future.
