CUSTOMARY LAWS

Land Acquisition {example below}

1. A Manobo Dulangan of a royal blood lineage may occupy and possess

an unclaimed parcel of land after have a previous land preparation
thereto.

2. A Manobo Dulangan may acquire a parcel of land through inheritance.

3. A landless Manobo Dulangan may acquire a parcel of land through an

award by the Datu for exemplary deeds such as, assisting the Datu in
solving crimes.

4. A Manobo Dulangan may acquire a parcel of land through Sunggod.

 5. A Non-Community member may acquire a parcel of land provided that
he will respect the customary laws, traditions and practices of the
Manobo Dulangan Indigenous Cultural Community.

6. A Manobo Dulangan builds a hut on his newly opened area to establish

occupancy and ownership thereof.

Land Distribution (example below)

1. The parents may assign parcels of land to their children.

2. The eldest son of the widow has all the right to assign areas to his
younger brothers.

3. The Datu who has jurisdiction over the area may distribute lands to the
landless members of the community.

4. Relative lands assigned by parents to their daughters, the sons-in law

merely work for its development and has no right to own the land. In
the event of death of the assignee, the same shall be awarded to their
children. In the absence of the latter, the shall revert back the relatives
of the wife.

Delineation/ Boundaries
1. Boundaries shall be recognized through semi- permanent markers such as
cassava plants and Bental, a kind of (dead) tree, cut and placed along
boundaries.

2. Boundaries shall be recognized through semi-permanent creek rivers,

ridges, hills, mountains, big trees.

3. Boundaries shall recognized through grave sites where bamboo or

munang trees frown or mebula stone (white stone) are placed or found.

4. Boundaries shall be recognized through plants such as banana, fruit trees.

5. Delineation shall be recognized through siblings, relatives who live

together for generation.

6. Delineation shall be determined by family names (direct roots)

7. An IP belonging to the Datu clan may occupy and un- open land provided
to previous kaingin who has been employed in the desired areas.

8. An IP may acquire a parcel of land through inheritance when both parents

of the father died.
 9. An IP may acquire a parcel of land through labor if he owns no land
elsewhere despite his being a non-member of the Datu clan.
