Construction Project was a sequence
of activities to achieve a project’s
goal by using the available
resources in a certain time and was
done once (not repetitive).
That is why every project is UNIQUE

“construction” that has a meaning
as a structure
Structure sometimes has a form of
building, but sometime has a form of
road, bridge, dam, tunnel, and soon
Thus, “construction” that we discuss
could be a building, or a road, or a
bridge, etc

• Certain duration : has a certain date
to start and has a certain date to
finish
• Unique : Only done once
• Has many activities, but done in
sequence order and related in every
phase
• Work load and work intensity is in
accordance with project’s phase

heterogeneous in accordance with
construction project’s phase
• Particular construction project’s site
• Project’s technical specification is
definite in accordance with
construction project quality
• Construction Project budget also

Based on description in previous
slides, construction project has 3
constraints: Cost, Quality, and
Duration

Construction project has to be


complete in certain agreed cost,
certain agreed quality (specification)
and also in certain time frame

In order to fulfill all constraints, and
take into consideration the available
resources, therefore construction
project needs to apply management
functions throughout its phases
