DECLAMATION

Declamation is a recitation of a speech from memory with studied gestures and


intonation as an exercise in elocution or rhetoric.

Mechanics:

Every participant performance is given an allotted time of not more than ten (10)
minutes.

1. Participants are given a freedom to choose a declamation piece.

2. Participants shall be in an appropriate costume and shall use props whenever


necessary.

3. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decisions shall be


considered final and irrevocable.

4. Only three (3) student declaimers shall be awarded as Champion, 1st Runner-Up,
and 2nd Runner-Up.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:

Overall Interpretation

The student declaimer demonstrates mastery of the piece through expressive


interpretation and provides the audience with a direct experience of the masterfully
crafted literature. (40%)

Vocal Aspects

The student declaimer employs vocal effects such as varying tone, pitch, volume, and
others to reinforce a powerful interpretation of the piece. (40%)

Costume and Props

The student declaimer wears a costume and uses props required in the development of
the presented discourse. (20%)
