Literature Information
This manual should be stored in the literature holder.
Safety
The safety section lists basic safety precautions. In
addition, this section identifies the text and locations
of warning signs and labels used on the machine.
Operation
The operation section is a reference for the new
operator and a refresher for the experienced
operator. This section includes a discussion of
gauges, switches, product controls, attachment
controls, and programming information.
Maintenance
The maintenance section is a guide to equipment
care.

Drum Accelerometer
The drum accelerometer measures drum vibrations
resulting from interactions of the drum and the
ground. The accelerations are affected by ground
stiffness. As compaction continues, the ground
stiffness changes and the accelerometer indicates
this change. Accelerometer signals are sent to the
Alpha 30 Microcontroller.
Alpha 30 Microcontroller
The Alpha 30 Microcontroller contains the application
that interfaces with the accelerometer that is
mounted on the vibrating drum. Accelerometer
signals are processed to produce values that indicate
compaction level. These values are sent to the
MC024 microcontroller.

Reference Surfaces
Reference surfaces are included in designs when
the finished surface is built up with a number of
layers. For example, a road surface might be built up
from four or five layers, made up of different grades
of material. When the engineer prepares the road
design, the engineer can specify the finished level of
each layer using a reference surface.
