There is a big difference between an information being considered as a “gossip” and a
“history”; these words are invented separately for a reason. Both has a chance of being
proven true or false, but only “history” underwent proper analysis before arriving to a
conclusion (Contreras, 2022).

“You can only have a judgement and you can only have an opinion if you did the
methodology of history already,” (Chua, 2022). Unlike “gossip” that could easily be
spoken by anyone without any references (e.g a make-belief story by your neighbor just
to have something to talk about), “history” is supported by primary sources that were
criticized over and over again before even passing on the information gathered
(Mentzarlis, 2018).

A vlogger’s channel called “Ben Barubal” is infamous for spreading hateful messages
addressing to those who are not supporting Bongbong Marcos during the election.
Recently, he called out Maria Ressa, a recipient of a Nobel Prize, and accused her of libel
(Ben, 2022).

Moreover, he made a video defending Ella Cruz (issue stated on the first topic of this
paper) for saying “History is like trismis.” He claimed that the TV 5, a channel in the
Philippines, started that thought and should be held accountable.

“The show actually showed how various historians gather evidence, validate the true
story of the historical events, and analyze their implications,” (Chua, 2022) --- a
statement released by a historian who came forward to explain how the accused show
truly worked.

As a mater of fact, the show “History with Lourd: Tsismis Noon, Kasaysayan Ngayon”
followed all necessary steps of analyzing and criticizing an issue in order to pull out the
truth out of people and situations (Esquire, 2018).
