Objectives:
SWBAT demonstrate understanding of orchestral balance through the rehearsal of Point
Lookout during class.
SWBAT play with correct intonation in the piece Point Lookout during rehearsal.
SWBAT demonstrate understanding of techniques required to achieve articulation and style
through the rehearsal of Point Lookout during class.

Procedure:
1. Tune (Using Matt Radspinner’s tuning sequence)
2. Point Lookout Rehearsal
a. Run-through of m1-104, review of yesterday’s progress
b. Rehearse timing of bass’s entrance at m79 – out of time, ritardando
c. Run through of m131-185, review of yesterday’s progress
d. Violin 1 at m182 – test col legno vs. no col legno, decide which sounds better and
make permanent
e. Full orchestra rehearsal of m174 – accent on beat 2 for everyone
i. Bow close to bridge and closer to frog, more weight
ii. Practice on open string first
iii. Apply to music
iv. Same technique at m 176 for the accent
f. Rehearse cello and bass melody
i. Review fingerings
ii. Listen for intonation
iii. Lessen the dynamic of the rest of the orchestra, listen for balance
g. Check fingerings at m 150 – make sure everyone is using the same ones
h. Rehearse m155 with full orchestra, address rushing
i. Final run-through of m131-185 incorporating everything rehearsed today
