understand. For example, the phrase "to kick the bucket" means to die, which may not be
apparent to someone who is not familiar with the idiom.

Topic: Learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
 Narrative citation (Using paraphrasing technique):
As stated by Brown (2006), learning a new language is an intricate task since it is more
than just mastering the linguistic aspects of the language. This author asserts that
grasping a foreign language implies learning a whole new culture, way of thinking, and
behaving.
Parenthetical citation (Using paraphrasing technique):
Currently, learning a foreign language, especially the English language, has gained great
relevance around the world. A growing number of people are looking to learn EFL for a
number of reasons, including being able to access a wide variety of information from
different fields easily and directly (Mihaljević & Medved, 2015).

Consequently, Brown (2006) affirms that “Total commitment, total involvement, a total
physical, intellectual and emotional response are necessary to successfully send and
receive messages in a second language” (p.12).

Learning English as a Foreign Language
Nowadays, it is important to learn English as a foreign language, since it is
recognized as a global language because it is used all over the world. A lot of people are
fascinated with English and choosing to study it. (Küçükler & Kodal, 2019). Learning
English in the present is a necessity. Zuparova et al., (2020) state that “English is the
most commonly used language among foreign language speakers. Throughout the
world, when people with different languages come together they commonly use English
to communicate”. (p.103)

Learning EFL speaking
Speaking is one of the most important skills when learning English because it shows the
proficiency in the language. Ibnian (2019) stablished that students hesitate when
speaking in
English and show a lack of confidence. This make students unable to express properly
or clearly. To avoid this, students need to be exposed to the language, to have the chance
to
use the language and to feel motivated. Students need to be active participants in the
process
of learning. They must be exposed in real situations which allow them to internalize the
language and convey their ideas (Anora, 2020). According to Firman (2021) the
accuracy in
speaking is determined by good pronunciation (intonation and accent), proper grammar
(how
words are placed) and vocabulary (the selection of the words). Consequently, a teacher
need to manage the language in order that students can imitate him or her.

Learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
In Ecuador English is a foreign language, the language is learned as a foreign language.
Although it is taught in schools, it does not play a fundamental role in the social sphere;
therefore, the place that English occupies in the lives of many foreign and second
language students today is less and less easy to define (Rustamov, 2022). There is a
decreasing level of English in recent years, it is necessary to think about a change of
strategies to generate the necessary motivation and achieve the closest objective to a
situation of learning English as a foreign language.
The importance belongs to the people interested in the subject, students who show a
relationship of interest rather than having intrinsic motivation to acquire a foreign
language, for many students it has an educational function, but the main purpose is to
propose to learn English with a clear intention; You want to communicate with tourists,
or make English-speaking friends, you want to travel, you like to make friends and learn
about other cultures, you enjoy being able to read newspapers, magazines, books in
English.
A study was carried out to publicize the existing perceptions among teachers and
students of the factors that internally influence the learning of English as a Foreign
Language (EFL) in the southern region of Ecuador. With the participation of 257
children, answering a questionnaire about motivation, disposition, anxiety,
memorization and self-efficacy in learning English skills. The classes taken by the
students were observed for a period of three months. In addition, eight teachers were
interviewed to demonstrate their points of view on the internal factors that students
present in learning English as a foreign language. Through analysis using qualitative
and quantitative methods, the results show that, according to the perception of
participants, motivation decreases according to age and the type of skills. Anxiety also
influences students when speaking in front of the class and when carrying out listening
activities as they grow older.
“Students are also self-sufficient in the classroom and remember what they have
learned. All the implications that can be derived from these factors must be carefully
analyzed by educational actors to help students succeed in the learning process”
(Cabrera et al., 2019).
