Chapter 1
Introduction

JOURNAL 1
English is an international language. Kachru in McKay & Hornberger (1996: 77) says
that the user and use of English can be divided into three areas, namely the inner circle
(native / native speakers), the outer circle (second language), and the wider circle (foreign
languages). . In Indonesia, English functions as a foreign language. According to Halim in
Kodong (1999), the function of foreign languages, in this case English in Indonesia, is:

1. Internal communication tools.

2. Supporting tools in making Indonesian a modern language.

3. Tools for further utilization of modern science and technology and national development.

In Indonesia, English is the first foreign language taught from elementary school to
college and is a compulsory subject. As stated in law number 20 of 2003 in chapter VII on
speaker languages, article 33 paragraph 3 states that foreign languages can be used as the
language of instruction in certain educational units to support students' foreign language
skills.

Based on the function of language as a means of communication, and the role of

English as an international language, through the Regulation of the Minister of National
Education (Permendiknas) of the Republic of Indonesia 22 of 2006 concerning content
standards and Permendiknas number 23 of 2006 concerning graduate competency standards
for primary and secondary education units, the objectives of English subjects in SMA / MA
are:

- Developing the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.

- Fostering awareness of the nature and importance of English in global development.

- Develop students' understanding of the relationship between language and culture, and
broaden cultural horizons.

According to Hornby (1975: 78), tense is a form of a verb or a series of verbs that is
commonly used to signify time relations. According to Frank (1972), tense is a special or
accompanying verb that indicates the time of an event. In direct or informal conversations,
tense is not overlooked, whereas in formal written and spoken languages, grammar rules must

be observed. Thus, tenses are very important to learn because learners can easily understand
the language.

Of the 16 existing tenses, one of them is the future tense. The future tense is a form of
a verb that signifies an event which is described by a verb that has not happened yet, but is
expected to happen in the future, or that will happen later. According to the pattern, the future
tense consists of four parts, namely:

a. Simple future tense

b. Future continuous tense
c. Future perfect tense
d. Future perfect continuous tense

This research was conducted by analyzing the misuse of the simple future tense by
students at SMA NEGERI 9 Manado. The subject of this research is Senior High School and
the object of this research is to analyze the use of the simple future tense. The researcher
chose to do this research at SMA NEGERI 9 Manado because this school is one of the high
schools in Manado which is a superior school and has received recognition not only in the
region but also at the national level, and is a school that is becoming an example in Manado.
as a school with national standards. This research has been planned to be completed at SMA
NEGERI 9 Manado by observing whether students still make mistakes in using the simple
future tense. The researcher chose this title because after interviewing one of the English
teachers at the school there were still some students who had difficulty understanding the use
of the simple future tense.

JOURNAL 2
Writing is one English skill that must be mastered. In the process of teaching and learning
English, writing ability is the most difficult and complicated language skill to be learned almost by
the students at every level of education. Even, writing is viewed as a challenging activity for many
students. In writing skill, there are many aspects to be considered. Perhaps, most
students/learners do not understand it, because writing is highly-dependent on skills and
competencies like spelling, outlining, and editing among others. To write clearly, it is essential to
understand the basic system of a language. In English, this includes knowledge of punctuation,
sentence structure and grammar,. Vocabulary is also necessary, as is correct spelling and
formatting. Noguchi (1991) defines that grammar choices affect writing style, sentence combining is
an effective method for helping students develop fluency and variety in their own writing style.

Writing includes numerous considerations and choices to be made regarding “higher level
skills”, such as content, structure and organization, and “lower level skills”, such as
punctuation and choice of appropriate vocabulary items and grammatical structures, which are
the terms used by Richards & Renandya (2002). Moreover, writing skill must be practiced and
learned by the students/learners through experience, a language proficiency also plays a role in
writing skill.

Chapter II
Discussion

power of journal 1
In writing, some aspects like grammar, punctuation and spelling skills really helps
the learners/students to communicate clearly. Grammar is related to using words,
according to set conventions and rules.

power of journal 2
on language elements, such as pronouns, conjunctions, organizing text can be easier
to understand, and can apply structure conversation, such as opening a conversation,
changing topics in activities conversation.

weakness journal 1
The result analysis shows that the students' error in writing composition of simple
future tense consists of three aspects of writing. First, in grammar, punctuation and spelling.
In grammar aspect, there are errors in some points of class word like in noun (21 data or
36.84%), determiner / article (2 data or 3,51%), pronoun (1 data or 1.75%), preposition (15
data or 26.32%) and verb (18 data or 31.58%), then the most dominant error in grammar
aspect is noun. Second, in punctuation (16 data or 17,20%). Third, in spelling (20 data or
21.51%). Based on the frequency of each aspect of error writing shows that the most
dominant error found in the students' writing compositi

weakness journal 2
After analyzing the data, errors were found in the use of simple future tense (shall / will, be
going to, be about to / be to, present continuous as a marker of future) which can then be
classified into errors in addition, omission, substitution, and ordering.

Conclusion

conclusion
So, the conclusion that I can draw from this critical review journal is that the journal I
have discussed has advantages and disadvantages. On one side of the advantages of this
journal is the discussion that is very good and suitable for guides and guidelines to increase
knowledge about studying Future Tense Gramma and it's practice.

Suggestion
We realize that the reviews we have done are inseparable from shortcomings, such as
the adage that says, "no ivory is not cracked, no human being is perfect." I really hope that
suggestions and constructive criticism from readers can be used as evaluation material for the
future to be better. Finally, I hope this study will be of benefit to readers in gaining insight
into science regarding the study of a journal.
