General Guidelines for Go Gauges Learning Aid

Purpose
This document captures the main learning points on the subject of using a Go Gauge to
check threads.

Pre-use checks

§ All test and measuring instruments should be wiped free from dirt and grit before
using.
§ Visual inspection of measuring equipment should be performed before using. If there
is any signs of damage or misuse the equipment should be returned to the Calibration
Lab for inspection.
§ All test and measuring equipment is subject to periodic calibration or inspection. All
calibrated test equipment must bear evidence of a current calibration sticker.
Note:
§ To properly check threads, both Go and No-Go gauges must be mated to the
threads. Running one gauge will not completely check the thread possibly resulting in
a failure.

Procedure

1. You should only use your hands to mate the Go gauge to

the thread

2. Screw the Go gauge all the way into the thread.

3. Unwinding the Go gauge there should be no flank (lateral side to side) movement.

Important

If the Go Gauge should not fully pass through or excessive force is required, the thread is
considered defective.
