★AIM:
To study about plug gauges, uses of plug gauges, types of
plug gauges,manufacturers of plug gauges.

★WHAT IS PLUG GAUGES?

Plug Gauges are used for checking holes of many
different shapes and sizes. There are plug gauges for straight
cylindrical holes, tapered, threaded square and splined holes.
At one end, it has a plug of minimum limit size, the 'GO' end
and; at the other end a plug of maximum limit, the 'NOGO'
end.
Plug gauges, in some cases called pin gauges, are metrology
tools whose purpose is to gage the inside diameters of holes
that have been drilled or machined into a manufactured part,
component, or assembly.
★Types of Plug Gauges
Plug gauges are available in several different types. These
include:
• Go plug gauges
• No-go plug gauges
• Combination go/no-go plug gauges

★USE:
Plug gauges is mainly use for mesure internal diameter
of hole.
Plug gages should be used in a GO-NOGO combination. The
purpose of the GO gage is to determine whether the hole
has met the low limit of the specifications. If a hole is to
small the GO gage will not enter. The larger NOGO gage
checks the upper limit of the hole.

★NEED OF PLUG GAUGE:

A plug gauge is a cylindrical type of gauge, used to check
the accuracy of holes. The plug gauge checks whether the
whole diameter is within specified tolerance or not. The 'Go'
plug gauge is the size of the low limit of the hole while the
'Not-Go' plug gauge corresponds to the high limit of the hole.

★TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF PLUG GAUGES

Plug gauge can mesure internal diameter of a hole.
A go/no-go gauge refers to an inspection tool used to check a
workpiece against its allowed tolerances via a go/no-go test.
Its name is derived from two tests: the check involves the
workpiece having to pass one test (go) and fail the other (no-
go).
A go/no-go gauge is an integral part of the quality process
that is used in the manufacturing industry to ensure
interchangeability of parts between processes or even
between different manufacturers. It does not return a size or
actual measurement in the conventional sense, but instead
returns a state, which is either acceptable (the part is within
tolerance and may be used) or unacceptable (the part must
be rejected).
They are well suited for use in the production area of the
factory as they require little skill or interpretation to use
effectively and have few, if any, moving parts to be damaged
in the often hostile production environment.

Hardened and ground plug gauge

These gauges are referred to as plug gauges; they are used in
the manner of a plug. They are generally assembled from
standard parts, where the gauge portion is interchangeable
with other gauge pieces (obtained from a set of pin type and
a body that uses the collet principle to hold the gauges
firmly. To use this style of gauge, one end is inserted into the
part first, and depending on the result of that test, the other
end is triedReplaceable thread and plug gauges.

2 Tapered Taper gages are used to check the taper

gauge with tapered bores or holes. This is a
manual type of gauging system
consisting of a set of gages fitted
together, namely, a plain taper plug gage
and a plain taper ring gage

4 Cylinrical Cylindrical Plug Gauges are used to

The NOGO gage checks the upper limit of
