Isabela National High School defeated Roxas National High School with a score of 28-27, 60-59
in favor of Isabela National High School during the exhibition game last Tuesday, sunny
afternoon held at St. Ferdinand College Open Court, Ilagan, Isabela.
Florante Carreon top scored in their huge victory producing 21 points and Paul Gonzales
contributing 13 points – scoring the crucial moments of the game including the winning free
throw, while Rolly Menor from RNHS garnered 22 points in total.
“Faith carried us through this game, it’s a good game.” Gonzales exclaimed.
A roller-coaster encounter ended at 28-27 slim margin for INHS. The game was not yet over and
the opponent is still hoping for the best result, for the fight is very close. RNHS was trying to
give all what they can and resume their full energy for the second half. All techniques and
strategies for winning will be applied thoroughly for the next half. By hook or by crook, the team
will do by all means to conquer the opponent, even though the jampacked crowd is
predominantly RNHS
The game is still close, as we take a look to both team, everyone is fighting for the win. Each
team is very defensive and looking for a chance to earn a score. Incredibly, INHS still leads the
game and never gives a chance to their opponent to earn a score. The overwhelming crowd and
the cheering squad victoriously showered by a colorful confetti.
In the last two minutes, Roxas took the lead but Gonzales fired a trifecta to give INHS the lead
54-53. RNHS’s Rolly Menor found his rhythm and tried the game at 59 all with 15 seconds
remaining. With 10 seconds left, Gonzales fished a foul and connected 1 out of 2 free throws.
Menor shot a desperate jumpshot that went in-and-out of the ring.

Bullying has to be stopped

Bullying is an ongoing problem in schools, and in many other places beyond school, and despite
all the publicity and programs over the last several years, it does not seem to be diminishing at
all.
Bullying is an ongoing problem in schools, and in many other places beyond school, and despite
all the publicity and programs over the last several years, it does not seem to be diminishing at
all.

Thus, with the development of a new bullying program through the Canadian Red Cross, along
many other local stakeholders, educators want to bring a new, higher level of awareness of the
problem to the public's attention by holding a massive "Pink Parade" today, Apr. 13, through
Weyburn's downtown area.
Weather permitting, organizers are hoping there will be a crowd of well over 1,000 participants
who will march up Third Street, with involvement from the Comp's SRC and from all the
elementary and junior high schools, who will also be participating in a city-wide "Pink Shirt
Day", all in the name of promoting acceptance and tolerance of all people, and the right not to be
bullied.

Those adults not in school, or who no longer have children in the system, may question if
bullying is actually still a problem; the statistics show overwhelmingly, this is not a problem that
has diminished with the years.
In Canada, one in five children is bullied, and one in 12 youth are regularly harassed in school by
other students. In a study done for Health Canada, 43 per cent of boys and 35 per cent of girls
said they had been bullied in that year.

One stat shows a huge discrepancy: 71 per cent of teachers said they usually intervene in
bullying episodes, while only 25 per cent of students themselves say that teachers intervene. This
shows that teachers, and by extension, most adults, are unaware of how prevalent bullying is in
school.

As a society, and as families, we need to pay attention to this problem and stop it where it starts,
at young ages on the school ground, as well as at home or in the neighborhood. It can no longer
be acceptable to verbally or physically abuse another person, not for any reason. As long as this
is tolerated, we will always have bullying to contend with.

Chronicles of Bullying
Bullies are people with the prevailing antisocial behavior of getting under others skin and converting
them to be their helpers (Besag, 2009). How and why on earth would one child bully another? Well,
someone can be wondering what they gain by making others their subjects.
Bullying can exist in different forms which including physical, verbal, covert and cyber bullying.
Physical bullying involves the use of force such as manhandling fellow students, beating them up,
hitting them with objects, tripping them and damaging of their properties. Verbal bullying includes
name-calling, stereotyped remarks and hurling of insults. Covert bullying includes spreading of
rumors against other children and mimicking embarrassingly. Cyber bullying is the use of technology
surreptitiously to harm people’s reputations and takes in form the form of making defamatory
comments on social media.
A majority of people tend to believe that bullying is old-fashioned and does not exist. These people
fail to think outside the box since they may not have experienced it first hand or happened to a person
close to them. This is absolutely incorrect since the bullied students in schools fail to realize their full
potential because of fear of bullies. This increases their risk of getting depression and feelings of
loneliness and isolation. Those who are bullied fail to think properly and as such fail in their
assignments and examinations since they are full of anxiety at all times, experience nightmares and
even may contemplate suicide in extreme cases where they fail to attach any meaning to life beyond
being bullied (Rigby, 2012).
Bullied children not only fail to attain their dreams in school but also in life. Their self-esteem gets so
low that they will always fear to take the next step since they fail to seize opportunities and think
everything is a threat to them. Research has shown that young adults who were bullied in their
childhood displayed a high propensity for being impoverished in their lives, struggle to hold on to
regular jobs and depicted an antisocial relationship with fellow young adults in the form of withdrawal
behaviors.

Those who bully others as well are not off the hook yet since their lives as well will be hampered in a
way or another. They get into fights most of the time and vandalism of property. These acts land them
in undesirable scenarios with the school authorities and risk being thrown out of school before
completion.
Their later lives as well will be full of troubles as they will try to bully everyone including their
children and workmates. Authorities will be hot on their heels because of vandalism to property and
they may spend their lives in jails. Such kind of acts will result in isolation and hatred and they will
feel disconnected with the rest of the people making them depressed and contemplate suicide (Marr&
Field, 2006).

When bullying is eradicated and children realize that the schools they attend are free from this act then
they divert their attention to learning rather than attempting to be safe. This enables them to realize
their potentials in full and beyond what they may conceive. A free learning environment brings the
best out of students.

It is high time that people open their ‘third eye’ to this vice and wake up from the uninformed thought
that bullying does not exist to the reality that it is responsible for the death of major talents and
abilities in people. Everyone should take an initiative to ensure that schools will be free of bullying.
Teaching children on the effects of such acts on their lives and those of others will go a long way in
stamping out this vice.

At higit
