TECHNICAL EXPECTATIONS

☐ Course Management System (LMS)— Learn how to use specific features of the LMS, such as the
gradebook, creating announcements, posting discussions, mastery pathways, setting up
assessments and modules
☐ Course Maintenance— Review the hyperlinks included within the course to check for broken links and
to make sure that the information used is accurate and current
☐ Reference Citations— Verify that all referenced sources are cited. Using APA 7 format and review with
students how to properly site & use sources and images
☐ Course Multimedia Accessibility—Utilize the “View as Student” feature to navigate the course as the
student. Verify that all multimedia meets accommodation requirements (closed captions and audio
transcripts), and test videos and media for proper display and playback.
☐ Security Settings—Ensure that virus protection is up-to-date on my laptop to protect files from
becoming corrupt as a result of accessing materials from different sources.
☐ Gradebook Setup—Verify that the online gradebook of the LMS is synched with Infinite Campus,
including the grade weights and categories.

2. MANAGERIAL & COURSE ORGANIZATION EXPECTATIONS

☐ Welcome Message—Send a welcome message via email and text to parents and students that
introduces myself, including my contact information and gives some background information about
the course. Also, create and post a welcome video on the Homepage of the LMS under “Meet the
Teacher”.
☐ Course Calendar—Clearly outline due dates & times that will help students stay on pace with the
coursework
☐ Syllabus—Include important information that students will need throughout the course (my contact
info & preferred method of contact, expected respond times to emails and feedback, office hours,
grading policies, academic honesty, student code of conduct, etc.)
☐ Pre-course Survey—Include questions to get to know students interests, goals and learning
preferences
☐ Sneak A Peek— Provide students and parents an inside look of the online course and its materials,
such as the syllabus, LMS website, and course expectations
☐ Students Contact Info—Create a spreadsheet with students’ parent information (phone numbers,
email addresses) to use to send a welcome message to parent and students prior to the start of the
course

3. PEDAGOLOGICAL & INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN EXPECTATIONS

☐ Module Overview— Provide a brief description of Module 1, including the learning target(s) and
outcomes
☐ Netiquette—Establish rules on how to participate & acceptable behaviors within the online learning

community and appropriate types of online interaction between peers and instructor.
☐ Course Assignments—Review assignment due dates, grade weights & instructions to insure that they
are standards based and give students multiple opportunities to interact with the course content
☐ Discussion Posts-- Create discussion posts for each module so that students have opportunities to
interact with their peers and share their ideas surrounding the topic of discussion. This will facilitate
in building the online learning community.

4. PARTICIPATION & SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS

☐ Facilitate an Icebreaker activity in the beginning to give students an opportunity to share their
interests and attributes, as well give them an opportunity to see your personal side
☐ Communicate regularly using the announcement feature of the LMS
☐ Create a “Café” discussion area for students to share ideas that are more casual, which will help build
the online learning community
☐ Schedule live synchronous sessions, using an online meeting application like Teams, throughout the
course to allow students to interact with you and their peers in real-time
