Course Syllabus
Scientific and Technical Writing
First Semester 2017 - 2018

I. UNIVERSITY VISION
The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University shall be a progressive learner-centered
research university recognized in the ASEAN region in 2020.

II. UNIVERSITY MISSION


The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU) shall primarily provide
instruction, undertake research and extension, and provide advanced studies and progressive
leadership in agriculture, forestry, engineering, education, arts and sciences, humanities, and
other fields as may be relevant to the development of the province.

III. GOALS OF THE COLLEGES OF ACCOUNTANCY AND BUSINESS


ADMINISTRATION
The college shall aim for the following goals:
1. Continuously enhance instruction towards becoming a center of excellence in business
education;
2. Enhance the quality of learning and upgrade its facilities to enable student to:
a. Acquire the knowledge, proficiency and skills in their respective specialization
tracks;
b. Enhance their competencies in ICY-based and social entrepreneurship-focused
business concerns; and
c. Develop values required of professional accountants and business administrators in
the context of the evolving global industries and local and national economy.

IV. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGES OF ACCOUNTANCY AND


BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The college shall:
1. Equip and empower students for ready employment in the fields of marketing, financial
management, human resources management and public administration;
2. Adequately prepare accountancy students for CPA Licensure Examinations; and
3. Develop graduates with potentials business administrators and leaders in competitive
industries.
V. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Human Resource Development
Management (HRDM)
The Human Resource Development Program aims to prepare the graduates for a career in the
field of Human Resource Management in various corporations whether in the manufacturing,
marketing and service sectors, or in the different types of industries such as pharmaceutical, semi-
conductor, food and beverage, banking industries and other types of organizations.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES


The objectives of the program are:
1. Complete understanding of the concepts, principles, theories, and philosophies in Human
Resource.

2. Assist students seek employment and facilitate the integration process in the corporate
environment so they can be immediately productive once employed.

3. Assist the students in appreciating the HR role in the organization and how they can make
meaningful contributions as a strategic partner in building the organization to become
globally competitive.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:


At the end of the course, the students with 80% accuracy are expected to:
A. Distinguish technical writing from other forms of writing;
B. Write papers required in their particular course;
C. Practice honesty and truthfulness in writing papers;
D. Differentiate method, forms, and uses of various types of technical reports;
E. Document research studies using the prescribed format;
F. Express personal, professional, and social values in technical reports, such as having the
right attitude in studying, assuming responsibility in one’s work, preserving the
environment, contributing to economic progress, etc.

VII. COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This process-oriented course reinforces the writing skills for academic purposes, integrating
skills for occupational purposes, and emphasizes writing technical communication using
professional courses as bases. It includes business communication, research writing, scientific
paper, feasibility studies, case studies, and other pertinent technical-oriented writing. It also
provides students a detailed guide on documenting their research studies.

XV. CLASSROOM POLICIES:


1. A student who misses any of the major tests must present a valid reason why he/she
was absent before he/she can take the special examination
2. Allowance of 15 minutes is considered before one will be marked absent
3. All other policies stipulate in the Student’s Handbook related to academics and
proper decorum are also included (haircut, uniform, no. of allowable absences, etc.)
4. Usage of cellular phones and other communication/entertainment gadgets are not
allowed inside the classroom during the class hours
5. Any form of cheating are strongly prohibited.
6. Students are not allowed to have more than 11 hours absences semester (20% of
allocated hours), she/he may be automatically be dropped in the subject.
