Force and motion are deeply related in nature. We can say that force is the cause of motion.
Suppose something is moving, we can say that some force must be acting on it or some force must
have acted on it which produced this motion. If a person is walking, and hence in motion, there must
be some force acting on it which is making him move. What is this force? This force is the muscular
force of his body.
Similarly, if force is applied in the same direction of movement of a moving object, it accelerates. For
example, if you rotate the pedal of a bicycle, it will go faster.
When we say an object is “in motion”, we mean that its position is changing with time. For one-
dimensional motion, this means the object is moving only in a straight line — think of traveling
straight along the x or y-axis on a graph, or a line such as x=2. Or, imagine biking along a
straight, flat path with no twists or turns.
Motion in one dimension is when the position of an object changes along a straight line.
“Free- fall” motion is a
Uniformly Accelerated Motion
that takes place in
a vertical direction. Every
time an object moves
vertically, either going
upwards or going downwards,
we say it is in Free- fall

Uniformly accelerated motion is the motion of an object undergoing
constant acceleration that does not change with time.
Kinematics is the study of motion without reference to the causal forces involved. Motion in one
dimension, involves situations such as traveling along a straight line or a falling object after
dropping it from some height
