1. User’s manual
This manual describes how to use analogue telephone sets connected to a SeaCom1000
exchange system. Trivial instructions are omitted.

1.1 Making outgoing calls

Outgoing calls, via satellite or shore lines, are made by first dialling the trunk line connected
to the communication equipment to be used.
To call via Ext1 (Fleet55), dial 00
To call via Ext2, dial 01
Access to the Sat-B is granted to the following extensions: Bridge, Bridge DECT, Captains
Office, Chief Off & Chief eng and Bridge –Red.

1.2 Holding and transferring calls

In order to be able to use this instruction, the telephone set must be equipped with an “R”
button (Register Recall).
The R button can be used to hold a call and establish a secondary call.
Depending upon which party of the secondary call terminates first, the primary call is either
re-established or transferred.
The transfer operation can be cancelled by pressing the R button a second time.

1.3 Making priority calls

The priority call function is used when a user wants to interrupt an ongoing call with an
important message.
Priority calls are made by first dialling the priority call facility. The default number for the
priority call facility is *. When this number is dialled you will hear a new dial tone, proceed by
dialling the number of the extension you wish to interrupt.
The priority call facility will place the other party involved in the interrupted call on hold. When
the priority caller hangs up, the interrupted conversation will be re-established.
Priority is granted to the following extensions: Bridge, Bridge DECT, Bridge –Red, Captains
Office, Captain, Chief Eng., Officers Mess, ECR, ECR –RED, ER, and SGR.

1.4 Ringing signal types

When receiving a call, different ringing signal types will give the called party some information
about the origin of the call. The following ringing signals are implemented:

Local call

External call

1.5 External incoming calls from Iridium or satellite

When calling this system on external line trunk or satellite, call is transferred to first bridge for
2x20 sec, then captain’s office for 20 sec and finally officers mess if no internal call number is
dialled when presented to new dial tone.

1.6 Ordering a Wake-up Call

The SeaCom 1000 includes a wake-up call system, where all extensions are able to order
and receive wake up calls.
The table below shows the default call numbers of the wake-up call system and the
corresponding effect.

Call number Effect

#110 Cancel ordered wake-up call
#111 + 4 digits wake up time Order a single wake-up call
#112 + 4 digits wake up time Order a repeat wake-up call every day until
cancelled by a new wake-up call order

A correctly ordered wake-up call will result in the user hearing the dial tone. Any keying errors
will result in no wake-up call programming (invalid time as an example) and the busy tone will
be heard.
When wake-up calls are executed, the extension ordering the wake-up call will ring. When
the handset is lifted, the wake up is cancelled. If repeated wake-up calls had been ordered,
the wake up is reordered +24 hours. If a single wake-up call had been ordered, the wake-up
call is just cancelled.
A wake-up call will be made 3 times in 60 seconds, whereupon the wake up call is cancelled
or reordered + 24 hours.

1.7 Setting system time

The real time clock of the SeaCom 1000 system can be set via a call to the set-date-time call
number:

Call number Effect

#120 + 8 digits date (YYYYMMDD) Adjust date of SeaCom 1000 system
#121 + 4 digits time of day (HHMM) (00 - 24) Adjust time of SeaCom 1000 system

If the time is validated and programmed, a dial tone will be heard. If the time is not validated
and thereby not updated, a busy tone will be heard.
The system time can be set from Bridge, Bridge DECT, Bridge –Red, Captains Office,
Captain

1.8 Making PA call

Public announcements can be made by calling the service, wait for the ‘GONG’ sound to end,
make the announcement and hang up.
When calling the service for PA, all amplifiers will be activated and de-activeted when
hanging up.
To make a PA cal dial 23
Access to make PA is granted to the following extensions: Bridge, Bridge DECT, Bridge –
Red, Captains Office, Captain, Deck office, officers mess, ECR and ECR –red.

1.9 Engine space call group

All phones in ECR, ER & SGR can be called as one group by making a group call.
The first phone in the group to answer the call will be connected.

1.10 Protected lines

The two lines Bridge –red & ECR –red are two spare lines where ECR –red can call bridge –
red and reverse. They can only be connected to by ECR, bridge, ER & SGR.
