Abstract:

Improper care and maintenance of crops and plants cause enormous damage and financial loss to
farmers, companies, and the government, with animals and birds being the main contributors.
Traditional techniques such as scarecrows, drum beating, etc. are not very efficient and require
human presence. This in turn results in decreased quality of work.

Therefore, this proposed model is designed to provide an automated, cloud-connected system for
crop growth and maintenance which helps in real-time monitoring to ensure prompt care with a low-
power and low-cost consumption when compared to other wireless network communication
technologies, which further reduces in hibernation or sleep mode. This utilizes Zigbee protocol
which provides a reduced delay as compared to currently present wireless broadband networks to
ward off birds and animals.

Proposed methodology:

1. Determine components and applications for the project.

2. Analyse Xbee parameters.
3. Building the circuit
4. Integrating various other sensors
5. Replace receiver side with NodeMCU
6. Integrate the hardware with the cloud to visualise the data.
Result:

1. Data from various sensors like PIR and moisture sensor transmitted and received wirelessly
through Xbee modules.
2. Any object radiating IR radiations in motion is detected by the system and user is notified.
3. Monitored data is processed and displayed to the user through an application in a presentable
format, to allow the user to take informed decisions.

Specific Contribution:

 Developed the algorithm for transmitter and receiver section.

 Documented the design, implementation and testing process to facilitate future development
and facilitation of the project.
 Developed the code for the transmitter and receiver module in embedded C language

Specific Learnings:

 Developed the understanding of the practical challenges in designing a system which is

optimized to work efficiently.
 Developed the understanding of developing algorithm for transmitter and receiver and learnt
the essentials of coding and debugging.

Technical Limitations and Ethical Challenges faced:

 Developing faster and efficient algorithm.

 The system has to specifically focus on animal movement and not detect any ir radiating
moving object.
 Optimise the system so that there is minimal interference faced due to solar radiation.
