Dye Testing

Please flush the toilet a few times at first to see if the flapper gets stuck open at all.
It may not get stuck every time you flush it.

In order to perform a dye test you will need red food coloring or dye.

1.       Take the top off of the toilet tank and drip the dye in the tank until the water
turns red. (Do not flush the toilet for 2 hours preferably do not flush for 6 hours)

2.       Let the dye sit in the tank. (Do not flush the toilet for 2 hours preferably do
not flush for 6 hours)

3.       After you let the dye sit for a few hours look in the bowl of the toilet to see if
and dye has leaked into the bowl from the tank.

4.       If there is dye in the bowl the flapper seal is bad and this is the cause of your
high usage.

Please be aware this test is necessary to determine if the toilet is leaking. The toilet
can be leaking without you actually seeing or hearing it running. Also be sure the
flapper does not just get stuck open part of the time. Sometimes a toilet flapper can
stick open every now and then when you flush it and you will not catch it every
time.
