What is Politics?
The activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict
among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.
Political Science depends upon some and not all Historical Facts: Whereas History is a chronological
record of all events and developments, Political Science is interested only in those facts which had
an impact on the nature and functioning of the state system and governments of various states.
Economics is guided by Politics and Economics always takes the help of Political Science for securing
right economic policies and goals. Thus, Political Science and Economics are two highly and closely
related interdependent social sciences. The two cannot be separated. Their boundaries overlap and
cross.
What is Political Science and Geography? The two disciplines have been associated through the sub-
fields of political geography, which covers geographical differences in voting patterns, for example,
and through geo-politics which examines how the great powers influence other parts of the planet.
Next, political science is closely intertwined with sociology as both branches attempt to study
human behaviour in groups. Whereas sociology studies the entire societies, political science is
concerned with the political systems that are part of the larger society.
Anthropology examines cultures within a society and theorizes about how those cultures affect
society. Anthropologists explore how people acquire cultural values. Because culture often has a
strong effect on behaviour, political scientists rely on anthropological studies and methods.
Psychology studies the way the human mind works, helping us to understand why people behave
the way that they do. Political scientists sometimes use the insights of psychology to analyze a
president's or voter's behaviour or to explain why some people are more prone to supporting
certain governments and ideologies.
The discipline of political science focuses on issues of power and governance and, in particular, on
political institutions, both formal and informal. It also focuses on political behaviour, political
processes, political economy, and state-society relations.
What is law?
The system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its
members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
