In the glaring heat of summer, as I enter the brightly garlanded school gate, I escape under the leafy kadambas,
and to my left, I see all the little huts and climbing equipment, as colourful as candies. Chubby cheeked children are
shrieking with joy as they slip down the cement slide into the silky-smooth sand, and I find myself slipping, too,
back into the past. Back in ‘the old days’ is a shady, muddy-brown pool filled with splashing girls. I am drawn closer
as if by a magnet, until I sit on the edge and scoop my legs over… Then, I’m in! A wave of cool nectar soaks my
steaming body until all the heat is washed away. Heavenly relief. In my heart, I bow down to the creators of both
these marvels, past and present – simply wonderful!
