Step Action
1. Begin by navigating to the Collection Elements page.
8. Use the Collection Elements page to query for the collection element for which you
want to define an alert action.
9. Press [F11].
10. Click in the Collection Element field.
11. Enter the desired information into the Collection Element field. Enter a valid value e.g.
"OVEN TEMP%".
12. Press [Ctrl+F11].
13. Click the Actions button.
14. Use the Quality Actions page to assign an alert action to a collection element.
Select the sequence and the alert action you want to associate to the collection element
from the list in the Actions this Rule Invokes region.
15. Click in the Seq field.
Step Action
18. From the available Quality Actions list, you can select to:
• Send an electronic mail notification.
• Execute a SQL script.
• Execute an operating system script.
• Launch a concurrent request.
22. Use the Actions: Send Electronic Mail page to give e-mail details of those whom you
want to be notified.
You can select a distribution list or give specific e-mails of the intended recipients.
You will also use this page to associate an output variable token to the alert action.
23. Click in the To field.
24. Enter the desired information into the To field. Enter a valid value e.g.
"pam.smith@oracle.com".
25. Click in the Subject field.
26. Enter the desired information into the Subject field. Enter a valid value e.g.
"Notification to Maintenance".
27. Click in the Mail text Multiline field.
28. Enter the desired information into the Mail text Multiline field. Enter a valid value e.g.
"Please test the contents of item number &ITEM received on
&TRANSACTION_DATE".
29. To include an output variable in the alert action select the Variables button.
30. Use the Output Variables page to associate an output variable token to the e-mail
notification alert action.
Output variable tokens are defined by entering an ampersand (&) followed by a token
name that represents a results value.
31. Click in the Token Name field.

32. Enter the desired information into the Token Name field. Enter a valid value e.g.
"ITEM_NUMBER".
33. Click in the Collection Element field.
