Learning Activity: Laboratory Equipment

Research the proper handling, usage and storage of the laboratory equipment assigned to you.
You may add additional information or trivia about the laboratory equipment assigned to you.
Put pictures of the lab. equipment on your output. You will present your work on our next
gmeet and it will be graded base on your performance.

LABORATORY WATER BATH

A container with heated water is what sets up a water bath, a piece of lab equipment. It is
used to maintain a steady temperature for a protracted period of time while incubating
materials in water. Most water baths allow users to set a desired temperature using a digital or
analogue interface, however some water baths have their temperature controlled by a current
flowing through a reader. Utilzations may involve melting substrates, warming reagents, or
incubating cell cultures. Additionally, it is employed to facilitate the high-temperature
occurrence of several chemical reactions. Because there is no open flame, water baths are the
preferable heat source for heating flammable chemicals. Different types of water baths are
utilized depending on the application. It is safe to use up to 99.9 °C for all types of water
baths. If the temperature is higher than 100 °C, alternate techniques such an oil bath, silicone
bath, or sand bath may be utilized. Be careful when using the equipment, daily check on
water levels and temperature. Use the cover whenever possible to avoid warmth loss. Check
the documentation that came with your particular equipment to see if there are any exceptions
before implementing these suggestions. Using a sponge or soft cloth, baths should be cleaned
with a very mild household or laboratory detergent. Never use steel wool, scouring powders,
or other abrasive pads. With a gentle brush and a light household descaler, metal buildup can
be removed. After cleaning, carefully rinse, and be sure to dry the bathtub. Following these
best practices proper operation, regular cleaning, avoiding pollutants, using the right
solutions, and being conscious of electrical safety can help reduce frequent issues and keep
your equipment performing at its best.
