CHAPTER-1

INTRODUCTION

The advancement of technology plays an important role in organizations functioning and

overall development of India. As our country is a developing nation and it has set its mission to
be digitalized in every arena, the organization also has started to use technology in their
activities. Before the technological advancement, organization used various sources to recruit
employees. Those sources are newspaper advertisement, campus recruiting, different job
agencies and so on. Those sources are also recognized as traditional recruitment sources. But
now along with those sources many others sources have been added to this list because of the
technological development. Various job related websites, recruitment via internet, E-mail, social
media etc. are the sources which added with traditional recruitment which is known as e-
recruitment. E-Recruitment is a mode for selecting one of the companies’ human resources
through technological mean. According to technological acceptance model, the uses of online
sources for job searching have been impressively increased. It is considered to be effective
because it saves time, effort and moreover it can ensure that suitable person is hired for a
particular position. So the main purpose of our study is to identify about how e-recruitment and
internet is influencing the recruitment process of an organization.

RECRUITMENT

Recruitment refers to the process of attracting, identifying, and hiring qualified

candidates for a job opening within an organization. The recruitment process involves various
stages, such as identifying the job requirements, sourcing potential candidates, screening and
selecting the most suitable candidates, and making a job offer to the selected candidate.

Recruitment is a critical process for organizations as it directly impacts the quality of talent that
is hired, which in turn affects the organization's ability to achieve its goals and objectives.
Effective recruitment practices can help organizations attract and retain top talent, promote
diversity and inclusion, and improve overall employee engagement and productivity.

Recruitment can be conducted through various channels, such as job boards, employee referrals,
social media, career fairs, and recruitment agencies. The recruitment process may vary
depending on the organization's size, industry, and specific requirements for the job opening.

E-RECRUITMENT

History of E-Recruitment

E-recruitment, also known as online recruitment, refers to the use of technology,

particularly the internet, to facilitate the recruitment process. The history of e-recruitment can be
traced back to the mid-1990s when companies started using online job boards to post job
openings and receive resumes from candidates.
The early days of e-recruitment were marked by the emergence of a number of job boards such
as Monster.com, CareerBuilder, and Hot Jobs. These job boards allowed employers to post job
openings and search for candidates based on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Job
seekers, on the other hand, could browse through job postings and apply for positions online.
In the early 2000s, e-recruitment underwent a major transformation with the advent of applicant
tracking systems (ATS). These systems automated many of the manual processes involved in
recruiting, such as resume screening, candidate tracking, and communication with applicants.
This made the recruitment process more efficient and streamlined.
With the rise of social media in the late 2000s, e-recruitment entered a new phase. Companies
began using social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to attract and
engage with job candidates. Social media also enabled recruiters to tap into passive candidates
who were not actively looking for a job but might be interested in a new opportunity.
Today, e-recruitment has become the norm for most companies, with job boards, applicant
tracking systems, and social media playing a central role in the recruitment process. As
technology continues to evolve, it is likely that e-recruitment will continue to transform the way
companies attract and hire talent.

Definition of E-Recruitment

According to Akinyele, Adeosun, and Adesanya (2021), e-recruitment is the use of

digital technologies, such as social media, job portals, and online assessments, to attract, screen,
and hire job candidates.
