The history of
the festival
The festival of Lent is an ancient Christian
tradition that originated in Europe, where
Catholic Christians observed the 40 days
before Easter to commemorate the 40
days Jesus spent fasting in the desert.
The tradition spread to other countries
and cultures, including France and Spain,
who brought it with them when they
settled (and brought slaves to) Trinidad,
Dominica, Haiti, Martinique and other
Caribbean islands.
Carnival is a unique
opportunity to experience
the culture of another
country. It's also a chance
to express yourself with
others in a way that you're
not always able to do at
home or school. You can
dance, sing, and share
jokes with new friends
while wearing costumes
that are different from
your everyday clothes.

and the voice of society
which is displayed on the
streets of the country in an

 The Impact on
Today's Society
Carnival today is celebrated today all over the country by
everyone. The best thing about carnival is that it is very
expressive and inclusive of all the diverse cultures that exist in
the country.
Today, carnivals make all attendees equal, blurring racial,
social and gender barriers. Although they represent traditions
and heritage, they are characterized by their ability to evolve
with the times, expanding to encompass groups that were
historically marginalized.
In the carnival season, there is significant amount of
economic activity across several sectors including
entertainment, security, media, hospitality and retail, normally
providing a boost for the domestic economy over a period of at
least six weeks.
