*A locally used unofficial flag, based on Guadeloupe's capital, Basse-Terre’s coat of

arms, it has a black or red field with a 30-rayed yellow sun and a green sugarcane, and a
blue stripe with three yellow fleurs-de-lis on the top.

Niveau 4 : La Musique

Le Bokit Sandwich.
One of Guadeloupe’s two well loved sandwiches. If you were to land on a Guadeloupe
streetside you would likely find a vendor or two offering a fresh sandwich of yummy filling on
a pillowy bun (the bokit part of the bokit sandwich)
4. CONT : Traditionally the fresh filling would be made with fish.
- Known as Chiquetaille de Mourue
Another mouth-watering favorite would be Marinated Pork filling, also served.
5. Niv. 2 : Les Fêtes Colorées de Guadeloupe.
- Carnaval Festivités
 The Guadeloupe Carnival is one of the main festivities in Guadeloupe.
Each year, it takes place during two months in early winter and ends the
day after Shrove Tuesday before the Lenten Season. Many events are part
of the festival: song and dance contest, election of the queen and several
costumed parades. Although all municipalities are involved, it is in Basse-
Terre, the capital, that the most important events take place. It is here that
the opening parade is held in January, as well as the grand parade, the
Sunday before Shrove Tuesday. Costumed dancers and musicians
followed by a joyous crowd line the streets to the beat of the drums.
 On the final day, Ash Wednesday, is marked by the burning of King
Vaval, the symbolic figure of Carnaval.

- Chante Nwel
 This tradition dates back to the period of slavery. The French Code
Noir required slaves to be "baptized and educated in the Roman Catholic
religion". In this way, traditional Christmas carols, in French, sung in
church, were mixed with sounds from Africa, as well as words in Creole.
These carols were accompanied by drums and other musical
instruments which they had learned for religious services.
 In the 20th century, the Chanté-Nwel were sung with friends, families,
neighbors and relatives. The Chanté-Nwel is not simply a charoling
tradition. It is a real moment of communion between the local
population and combines Guadeloupe tradition, Christianity and all the
food that makes Christmas, ‘Christmas’ in Guadeloupe. So, by singing
together, gathered people share a meal where everyone will have
contributed in the preparation, often in the form of a buffet. Of
course, schrub (a traditional Christmas drink made from rum and
citrus), bottles of rum and other local flavors were present and found
takers during the evening.
 Several new local songs and entirely in Creole have joined the existing
hymns over time ie., Loulou Boislaville (Martinique singer) created the
song "An nou chanté Nwel" (meaning Let's sing Christmas in Creole)
which often begins the Chanté Nwel.

- In case the introduction at the beginning of my presentation wasn’t super clear.
Guadeloupe as a French department doesn’t have its own anthem or flag and really isn’t
a country at all. So, in the spirit of an admiring outsider, I combined the lyrics of the
French anthem in tribute to its ties to the country while interlacing some cultural, a.
