Questions to Explore with Answers

• What materials should be used for the head of the axe?

Should it be made of high-carbon steel, stainless steel, or
another material?
• What size and weight should the axe be to optimize
throwing performance and accuracy?
• What kind of handle should the axe have? Should it be
made of wood, synthetic materials, or another material?
• What kind of grip should the handle have? Should it be
smooth or textured?
• Should it have finger grooves or other ergonomic
features? Should the axe have a one-piece or two-piece
construction? How should the head be attached to the
handle to ensure maximum durability and safety?

rust and wear?
• Should the axe have any additional features, such as a
removable blade for easy sharpening or a custom design
for aesthetic appeal?

MATERIALS

The blade of an axe should be made of Spring steel is

known for its toughness, resistance to wear, and ability to
hold a sharp edge. And Damascus steel Variation

To protect the head/blade against rust and wear, a finish is

necessary. For spring steel material, a black powder coating is
recommended. The coating not only protects the steel from
rust but also provides a non-reflective finish that won't scare
off game.

A mix of rubber and plastic with an A+ quality grade is a

great option. This material provides excellent grip and is
resistant to wear and tear. Additionally, it absorbs shock,
reducing hand fatigue during use. Other options for handle
materials include high-quality carbon fiber, G10 scales, and
micarta. Avoid poor-quality plastic materials such as
polyethylenes, which are prone to cracking, burning, and
breaking.

When making Damascus steel axes or knives, it is

important to select the right type of steel. A good sandwich
mixture of Damascus steel with high carbon steel of good
quality is a popular choice. Additionally, there are different
qualities of rail tracks that can be used for the mixture, but
it's important to select the best quality available to protect
against rust. Good nickel steel known as "walaiti" is also a
great option for making Damascus steel axes.

PRODUCTION GUIDES

• Don't temper or harden the entire axe, just the blade. If

the whole axe is tempered or hardened, it can make the
blade brittle and prone to breakage, which can lead to
complaints from customers.
• Make the point of the axe a little thick and super pointy to
increase its ability to stick to its target. This will make the
axe more effective for throwing and hitting the target
accurately.
• Use a machine grinder to for grind lines, You can find
these machines at other factories or third-party
manufacturers, as well as at the Institute of Cutlery in
Wazirabad. By using a machine grinder, you can ensure
that the axe is shaped and sharpened consistently and
accurately.
• Use a cleaning machine to clean the axe instead of
cleaning it by hand. This will ensure that the axe is
thoroughly cleaned, You can use a machine from the
Institute of Cutlery WZD or buy your own if your budget
allows.
• If you are making axes without handles, make sure that
the front and spine of the handle and pommel are
polished. This will prevent any rough debris of steel from
injuring the hands of customers when they throw the axe.
• Create custom handle corby pins bolts for axes. Do not
use soft materials like brass, as they can cause stripped
threads easily. Only use steel to make the handle scales

and fasteners. You can use a lathe machine to create these

parts accurately and consistently.
