Summary

Stakeholders
Project Sponsor is the project's financier. This would naturally be the government of Jamaica in
collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force. They would have a great interest in the
successful completion of the project since they will be providing the project
Customers which is direct user of a product or service, often both internal and external to the
company executing the project. In this case the members of the JCF will be the primary user of
the system.
Agile Approach Benefits
 Increased focus on the specific needs of customers, it is very user centric. Key
stakeholders are consistently involved.
 Reduced waste through minimizing resources.
 Increased flexibility enabling teams to easily adapt to change.
 Faster project turnaround times. Delivery occurs frequently with customer value subset of
the overall project.
Project Risks
Scope creep
Scope risk, also known as scope creep, occurs when the initial project objectives aren’t well-
defined. It’s important to communicate your project roadmap with stakeholders from the
beginning and hold firm to those parameters. If you don’t communicate your project scope
effectively, stakeholders may try to change requirements mid-project.
How to mitigate scope creep: Creating clear project parameters from the start will strengthen
your project scope. Agreeing upon the project scope and communicating that vision with
stakeholders from the beginning will leave less room for scope creep. Scheduling regular
progress check-ins can also ensure the project stays in line with the original project scope.

Time crunch
Time risk, also known as project schedule risk, is the risk that tasks in your project will take
longer than expected. Delayed timelines might impact other things like your budget, delivery
date, or overall performance. This is a common risk that you may run into as project manager.
When you’re not doing the work yourself across lots of moving pieces, it’s easy to underestimate
the time it’ll take team members to complete a project during the initial planning phase.
How to mitigate a time crunch: To mitigate time risk, a rule of thumb is to overestimate the time
needed to complete tasks in the planning phase and build in time contingency. That way, you’ll
have wiggle room for scheduling later on. You can also create a project schedule using
a Timeline or Gantt chart. Having clarity into work, dependencies between work, and any delays
can help project managers dynamically adapt to time risk as it crops up. Understanding your
project lifecycle can also help you determine how long each task will take.
Adaptive Planning
Incremental Deliverable – a deliverable is an outcome (tangible or intangible) which is generated
via the value creation process (set of activities). The key to agile is that a large outcome is
divided into a series of related outcomes which are then produced and delivered on a timely
schedule.

Refine Requirements – In environments of uncertainty the requirements usually evolve over

time. Hence agile adjusts for this eventuality by a process which seeks to clarify requirements as
the project develops.

Optimize Value Delivery through the Team – The agile team is the vehicle through which the
value creation process is realized. As such it is important to ensure that the team is empowered to
produce the required deliverables in the time specified. This may involve providing adequate
resources or removing impediments to performance.
Agile Principles and Perfectionism
According to the PMI Pulse of the Profession annual report, 48% of projects are not finished
within the scheduled time, 43% go over their original budget, and 31% of projects don't meet the
initial goals and business intent. This doesn't sound very optimistic.
It is obvious that modern project managers are struggling to find the path to success and why
more and more of them turn to Agile project management and its core principles.
Agile Principle 1
“Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable
software.”
The best ways to ensure you make customers happy while continuously delivering valuable
software are to ship early, iterate frequently, and listen to your market continually.
Unlike traditional approaches to product development, which have notoriously long development
cycles, agile principles encourage minimizing the time between ideation and launch. The idea is
to get a working product in the hands of customers as soon as possible. This allows for a
minimum viable product (MVP) to be made available quickly which solicited feedbacks from the
users to enable changes to make the final product better.
Chess Principles
The principles below are chosen from the perspective of the project manager.
Have a plan.  Every move should have a purpose- A project manager must make plans especially
coming out of project meetings. Everything that the project manager does should have a purpose,
a good one at that, which positively affects the ongoing project.
Develop your pieces quickly- The project manager should also start to put together pieces of the
project quickly, especially in the beginning. This makes a positive impression on the stakeholders
and gives them confidence in the project manager’s ability to lead the project.

Watch your time and avoid time trouble- A project manager should always watch the time
allocation for each deliverable of the project and for the project overall. Avoiding time
troubles will lead to a smoother project for all and enable the project to be executed in the
best possible way to meet deadlines and leave room for positive updates.

Have confidence in your game- Project manager should have confidence in their ability. A
confidence ridden project manager will keep all the stakeholder calm and confident. It will
keep all the stakeholders buy in to the project. This allows for positive feedback and a
conducive environment for the stakeholders to perform withing the project very well.
