Venting an MSD Cap

When venting an MSD distributor cap, or any

other cap for that matter, what you want to do
is mentally find or position the mid-way point
between the bottom of the cap where is sits
on the base of the distributor and the ‘crown’
of the cap. This is the point of the cap, not
including the plug wire poles, where the cap
begins to curve at the top. Once you find this
mid-point, drill a 1/4” hole.

Once the first hole is drilled, move around the

cap 180 degrees and drill another 1/4” hole.

Usually, these are sufficient enough to use

the action of the rotor to draw fresh air
through the cap, keeping moisture to a
minimum.

If the two holes are not enough, drill two more

holes 90 degrees from the first two holes. If
you drill 4 holes they would end up at being
at clock positions 12, 3, 6, 9, if the cap were
oriented that way.
