Key features include:

● In-text citations
● Reference page
In-Text Citations

● Must be used EVERY time you include information from an


outside source
● The in-text citation should be placed at the end of the
statement/sentence
● Use the author-date method - author’s last name and the
year of publication, ex. (Mereu, 2022)
● Make sure all the sources that you do in-text citations
for are in your reference page at the end
In-Text Citations

● If you are citing someone else’s idea but not their exact
words, you can use the regular style of citation
○ A nucleus of an atom contains protons and neutrons
(Jenkins, 2002).
● If you use their exact words, you MUST use quotations
○ “A nucleus of an atom contains protons and neutrons”
(Jenkins, 2002).
In-Text Citations

● The citation will look different depending on how many


authors there are
○ 1 author - (Jenkins, 2002)
○ 2 authors - (Jenkins & Davies, 2002)
○ 3 or more authors - (Jenkins et al., 2002)
○ No author/unknown author - Use website title or
shortened version of the title for books - (Chemistry
11, 2002)

● A list of every source that you have used to finish your


assignment
● A reference list should…
○ Be on its own separate page at the end of the
assignment
○ Have its sources listed in alphabetical order
● Most common - websites and books

○ Author’s last name, first name initial. (year, month


day of publication). Title of page. Website name. URL
● Books:
○ Author’s last name, first name initial. (year of
publication). Title. Publisher. DOI(if available)
● Author’s last name, first name initial. (year, month day
of publication). Title of page. Website name. URL

Most Common Mistakes

● No references(in-text and reference page)


● Incorrect in-text citations
○ Eg. in-text citations should be (Lastname, year)
● Grammar and spelling errors
● Hitting return after every sentence
○ Should only hit return for a new paragraph
● Incorrect reference format on reference page
○ For books: Lastname, F. (Year). Title of work. Publisher
○ For websites: Lastname, F. (Year, Month Date). Title of page. Site
name. URL
