SAMPLE ANSWERS
DESCRIBE A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE YOU USE OFTEN.
• what it is
• how often you use it
• who you usually use it with
• and explain why this item is important to you.

Intro & Who: I would like to talk about the refrigerator because it is the most useful

household appliance I have. I live alone in an apartment and mostly do all the cooking by

myself so I use it all the time to store my food..

Description: My refrigerator was manufactured by LG and it is a side-by-side refrigerator

with an icemaker. I put most of the food, water and cooked food there. It makes my life
easier and keeps my food fresh.

Reason 1: The reason why I bought this fridge is that it will save me from cooking 2 or

3 times a day. Thanks to the temperature controller, everything is maintained at a low

temperature so the reproduction of bacteria is minimized. Therefore, I can cook food for

the whole week and put them all in the fridge. Then I can use the microwave to reheat

cooked food before eating, which is very convenient.

Reason 2: Besides, I can also make ice cream, smoothie and other juices for supers.
Sometimes I want to bring food, meats and vegetables from my hometown and preserve

them for more than a month. That would have been impossible without the refrigerator.

Conclusion: So that’s why the refrigerator has become an important appliance for my

daily life.

DESCRIBE AN ELECTRONIC PRODUCT YOU WANT TO BUY IF YOU HAVE MONEY

• where you can get it
• how much it costs
• what you can use it for
• Why do you want to buy it?

Intro: I have a personal fascination for the electronic devices and the need for the latest

technology is never-ending. If I have money, the first thing I would buy for my apartment

is a new washing machine.

Description: I already have a washing machine at my home but it is more than 4 years old

and I feel the need to buy a new one. The model that I have in mind would require a good

amount of money and I am planning to buy it early next year in a store near my house. It
would cost me around 500 USD since this is from a famous brand.

Reason 1: The first reason why I need a new washing machine is that the one I currently have

requires some manual works to have my laundry work done. The numbers of clothes that

need washing have increased dramatically over the year and it has become cumbersome

for me to do all those laundry works using the old one.

Reason 2: Furthermore the old washing machine does not have any facility to dry the

clothes and as a result I have to take the burden to take all the stuff to the roof top and
have them dried out in the sunlight. When the rainy season comes, it would be very

inconvenient.

Conclusion: That’s why I am planning to replace it with a new one.

DESCRIBE A PIECE OF FURNITURE IN YOUR HOUSE OR FLAT

• What it is
• When you got it
• What you use it for
• And explain what is special about it.

Intro: I’m not quite a fan of furniture collection, but off the top of my head, a piece of

furniture I often use is a small folding chair.

Description: I bought this chair about 2 years ago and I have used it more often recently. I’m

in my last year at university and I have to work with my laptop a lot so it’s very comfortable

and convenient sitting in my chair.

Reason 1: The first reason why it is unique is that the chair is made of canvas and the

frame is aluminum so it’s lightweight and easy to take out or put away whenever I need it.

My bedroom is quite small and I don’t have much space for too much furniture. I also don’t

like clutter, so by putting the chair away after using it, my room looks a bit tidier.

Reason 2: Furthermore it is very comfortable for a folding chair, and that was the most

important factor for me when I chose it. It was also inexpensive even though the design is

beautiful and flexible.

Conclusion: That’s probably one of the most practical things I have ever bought.
