Draping Techniques

Proper draping technique should expose only the body part that the therapist is going
to massage. The massage therapist will only work on one body part at a time.

• Massaging the Head and Neck

While massaging the head and neck, the client can have their arms out if they are
warm.

• Draping for Legs

With leg draping, the sheet is tucked under the leg and the opposite leg to
completely cover private parts.

• Draping for the Back

With the client lying in the prone position, offer to place a bolster under the ankles
to give support for the ankle joint. Grasp the outer edges of the draping at the
shoulders, and fold back over to the lower part of the back. Begin the back
massage. Then cover the entire back when the back massage is completed.
