LESSON
Ways of Ensuring Client’s Comfort Before
Manicure / Pedicure Services
Spas and salons are more than places to acquire grooming. People go to
these places to relax and rejuvenate. Ensuring client’s comfort should be one of the
priorities of salon owners and personnel to keep customers coming back to the salon
to avail for various treatments like manicure and pedicure. But how can you keep
your clients feel more comfortable and relaxed? Here are a few ways:

1. Establish client expectations and wishes. Before starting any salon

treatment, it is very important to talk with the client first to understand what the
client expects or worries about. Ask the client what they want to accomplish or
what brings them to the salon. Home care routines should be discussed to suggest
the most suitable treatment to improve the client nail and skin condition. When
making conversation with the client, make sure to take a genuine interest, stay
focused, positive and neutral and pay attention to what the client is telling you.
2. Prepare yourself, the client and the working area. Make yourself well-
presented or well-groomed by keeping your uniform clean and keeping up personal
hygiene. Also, make sure the area is safe and secure. Clear the area with any
obstacles and spillage and make sure to disinfect tools and equipment. Manicure
products must be well kept and are not cluttered in the work station.

3. Ensure quality and suitable working environment. The treatment room

should be comfortable with soft lights, with no harsh spotlights or strip lights.
Calming music at a low background level will create a relaxing atmosphere.
Sufficient ventilation must be ensured and the room must not be crowded with
people.

4. Describe different consultation techniques used to identify treatment

objectives. It is important to gain an understanding of what the client wishes to
achieve prior to carrying out manicure and pedicure services. Questions like what
they do for work, how active they are in a daily basis, or if they have special
occasions to attend to are beneficial. This will help you in giving suggestions or
insights into what methods should be carried out and highlights of concern.
Products can be introduced to the client, explain their benefits and prices for
available purchase. Costs must be discussed in advance so that the client will
know if it fits his/ her budget.

5. Let the client know what is happening. Take time to explain the process.
Before giving manicure/pedicure services, explain to your clients the importance
of carrying out nail and skin analysis. Let them know what they will experience
or feel during the treatment. Recapping on what will happen allows you and your
client that you are on the same page. Give your client the assurance that you will
make some adjustments to make him/her comfortable during the process
specially when the client is anxious about a certain step or is sensitive about a
body part.

The end result of ensuring clients’ comfort from the time they enter and leave
the salon will absolutely be a satisfied customer. Customer satisfaction is one of
the key factors of having a profitable and strong business establishment.
