Elimination Part 1 PDF

1) Biotransformation, also known as metabolism, is the chemical conversion of one form to another within the body, usually through enzymatic processes. This is a major elimination process for removing drugs from the body. 2) Elimination occurs through two main processes: biotransformation and excretion. Biotransformation involves chemical changes to drugs through metabolic pathways, while excretion is the removal of drug and metabolites from the body. 3) Biotransformation can deactivate drugs through conversion to water-soluble metabolites that can be excreted, but can also activate prodrugs or produce toxic metabolites in some cases. This is an important detoxification process in the body.
