SPORTS NEWS | Tancharoen bucks a slow start to thrash the Philippines, 4-1

A coup for tact. A comeback to counterflow.

Armed with heavy lobs and fiery drives, Sarayut Tancharoen of Thailand penned
a comeback off a 4-1 tab to nab the W against the gritty Filipino in match 2 of the 12th
Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championships (SEATT) held last June 6.
Tancharoen toted the feat off from his rivals' inconsistencies and inability to
control lobs to plot an edge with leverage.
Right off the block, the two paddlers were riding roughshod over each other by
giving tit for tat in the form of miscalculated thwacks, not until Philippines busted a 4 to
nothing run to install an 8-4 count that pulled an 11-9 push to latch the upper hand in
the opening.
In the second set, Tancharoen rose from the crypt with a forehand grip to snare
the lead, 4-3. It was a neck-and-neck battle between the two until the Thai broke  the tie
with a backhand flick to own the second with an 11-7 taste of regimentation.
Tancharoen nailed a forehand runner to grease his wheels for a rampage, 2-2, to
escape another tight set at 11-8.
With the momentum doing wonders on his side, Tancharoen started the romp
with a backhand counter that proved too much for the Filipino to handle, 3-2, as a
means to pull away with a dominant 11-5 coup.
Tancharoen moved ahead in the belting jount while the Filipino paddler laid down
his sportsmanship, hefting the gest and demeanours that portray each Filipino.
The paddlers were supported by their coaches behind the lines to suffuse the rink
with their claps and roars.
