(B) finding velocity and accelerationof a particle

Velocity (v) =

61−18 𝑀
= 8−0 𝑆

43 𝑀
= 8𝑆

= 5.4M/S

Acceleration (a) :

𝑥𝑡 =𝑥0 +vt-a𝑡 2
making acceleration as a subject of the formular
𝑥𝑡− 𝑥0 −𝑣𝑡
a =-

61−18−(5.4)8

43−43.2

a =3.1×𝟏𝟎−𝟑 m/𝒔𝟐
Therefore graph shows the deceleration shape, the value will be in negative shape

a = -3.1×𝟏𝟎−𝟑 m/𝒔𝟐
2. (a) r = 4.30 cm, Ǿ = 214

(i) Cartesian coordinates:

x = rcosǾ , y = rsinǾ

X = (4-30) cos214

4.30 x -0.829

-3.56 cm

Y = (4.30) sin214

4.30 x -0.5592

-2.40 cm

Therefore; (x,y) = ( -3.56, -2.40)

(ii). Polar coodinates ( 2x , 2y)

R =√(−2𝑥)2 + (−2𝑦)2 = 2r
This point is in the third quadrant if ( x , y ) is in the
first quadrant or in the fourth quadrant if ( x,y) is in
the second quadrant .It is at an angle of 1800 + Ө

Therefore substute values

R= √(−2 × −3,56)2 + (−2 × −2.40)2

=√50.69 + 23.04

= √73.73

= 8.6 cm
𝑦
Ǿ = 𝑡𝑎𝑛−1 𝑥
4.8
= Tan-1 7.12

= 34.00

Therefore polar coordinates = 8.6cm , 𝟑𝟒. 𝟎𝟎

(b). Person’s Resultant displacement

According to the diagram I have drawn in the resultant from the tail of the first arrow to the head
of the last arrow.
The resultant displacement R is equal to the sum of the four individual displacements,
R=d1+d2+d3+d4.
translation from the pictorial representation to a mathematical representation by writing the
individual displacements in
unit-vector notation:
d1=100îm
d2=−300ĵm
d3=(−150cos30)î m + (−150sin30)ĵm = –130îm−75ĵm
d4=(−200cos60)îm + (200sin60)ĵm= −100îm 173ĵm
Summing the components together, we find
Rx=d1x+d2x+d3x+d4x=(100+0−130−100)m=−130m
Ry=d1y+d2y+d3y+d4y=(0−300−75+173)m=–202m
so altogether
R=d1+d2+d3+d4 = (−130î−202ĵ)m
Its magnitude is

∣R∣= √(−130)2 + (−202)2 = 240m

Calculation of the angle ϕ=tan−1(Rx/Ry)=tan−1(−130/−202) = 57.20
The resultant points into the third quadrant instead of the first quadrant. The angle counter
clockwise from the +x axis is
θ=180+ϕ = 2370
