MATH2004 Tutorial 3

1. Find the exact area of one petal of the flower r = 6 sin(2θ). Show all your work.

2. Find the area of the region common to the two regions bounded by r = 6 cos θ and
r = 2 + 2 cos θ. Show your work.

3. Set up (but do not evaluate) an integral that gives the arc length of the flower
r = 4 sin(2θ). Show your work. Hint: Using symmetry is a good idea.

4. Evaluate the function f (x, y) = x2 + x sin(y) at (2, π/2) and (−2, π/6).

5. Determine the partial derivatives of the function f (x, y) = 3x + 4y.

6. Determine the partial derivatives of f (x, y) = exy ln y.
